1.1 - Who are the Beastie Boys?
Officially, the Beastie Boys are three. Michael Diamond aka Mike D, Adam Yauch aka MCA and Adam Horovitz aka King Adrock.
The original line-up when the Beastie Boys formed back in 1981 was Mike D on vocals, MCA on bass, John Barry on guitar and
Kate Schellenbach on drums. When John and Kate later left the band they picked up Adam Horovitz as the guitarist. DJ
Hurricane became their DJ during the Licensed To Ill era but left the group 11 years later, just before the Hello Nasty release
circa 1997. All members of the Beastie Boys today are Mike D (vocals, drums) MCA (vocals, bass) Adrock (vocals, guitar)
Amery Smith aka AWOL (drums on punk songs) Mark Nishita aka Keyboard Money Mark (keyboard), Alfredo Ortiz (percussion) and Mix Master Mike (DJ).
According to Michael Diamond, B.E.A.S.T.I.E stands for; Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence.

As for Mike, he travels back and forth between NYC and LA but is still considered to be living in New York City.
Michael Schwartz aka Mixmaster Mike has been the Beastie Boys DJ since Hello Nasty and has won several
DJ awards. He first got in contact with Adam yauch by recording some scratching sounds on Adam's answering
machine.
1.7 - What happened to DJ Hurricane?

You obviosly haven't paid attention to this site. Here.

Well, it was supposed to be on the Anthology but AC/DC didn't allow it because of the samples from AC/DC's Back In Black.
Instead, the Beastie Boys chose She's On It which was done just after Rock Hard and is on the soundtrack of Krush Groove.
Grand Royal was the Beastie Boys very own independent record label. The founder was actually Mike D and the first band that
signed up for the label was Luscious Jacksons where one of the members was Kate Schellenbach who started out in the Beastie
Boys back in 1981. Because of economic difficulties, Grand Royal had it's closure in September 2001. No more Grand Royal.
3.2 - What other artists were signed with Grand Royal?

Sean Lennon, At The Drive-In and DJ Hurricane. Check out Grand Royal's website here (if it's still there)

they got it from.

(provided by]ason Nicol, me91jpn@brunel ac.uk). Only the Grand Royal and non-U.S. releases of Ill Communication

appreciate hearing herself on the record without her permission.
