BEASTIE BOY ADAM YAUCH has confirmed exclusively to NME.COM today(February 16) that his band are planning a UK leg of the TIBETAN FREEDOM CONCERT this summer - news originally broken by NME.COM on February 7th(Click here to read the story). The charity and awareness-raising festival took place in Chicago, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Sydney in 1999, but took a year off last year. However, NME.COM can reveal that the event will definitely be staged on Britishsoil this year - with suggested venues including Battersea in south Londonand Castle Donington and taking place on either June 23-24, the weekendGlastonbury was due to be held, or another weekend during September. Acts including the likes of Radiohead and REM look likely to play, althoughYauch refused to confirm names. Speaking to NME.COM in London, where he is in the process of talking topromoters and bands regarding the event, he said working towards the showwas "pretty much a full-time job". He went on: "I doubt anything will happen assoon as June. We're here researching the possibility of doing a Tibetan Freedom Concert. We're looking at possible venues, possible dates andmeeting with promoters and different people and feeling it out - we're reallyfiguring out if it can be done." Explaining the break in 2000 following the four 1999 shows he added: "We were doing it every year and we thought it was maybe losing some of the importance or impact. It was becoming a regular thing. We thought that doing it in other places also would be important so we started looking into the idea ofdoing it here in the UK." He made it clear, though, that events on the scale of 1999 - when the fourshows happened at the same time around the globe - were unlikely to berepeated. "We're not going to try and do a number of concerts again simultaneously. Thething we learned from doing that was that trying to do a bunch of them at thesame time in different places made it hard to give them your full attention, Sowe're likely to do a number of them at different times. We're talking about doingone in Japan also." To hear Adam Yauch talking about the Tibetan Freedom Concert, click here...
