(3/31/01, 10 a.m. ET) - The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) is claiming that Napster is still allowing copyrighted material to seep through a court-ordered filter, allowing fans to get music downloads for free, while the artists are still not getting paid. Beastie Boys and BS2000 member Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz told LAUNCH what he sees as the benefits and drawbacks of Napster. "I don't know . . . I've never messed with Napster so I don't know. I guess maybe it helps in a way so people can hear music that they might not hear, but no one gets paid for it. But I don't see why people can't get paid for it. There should be a way, because this is what we do. This is our job and people. . . You do work and you should get paid for it. I think everybody should get paid for the work they do." The RIAA filed papers in U.S. District Court in San Francisco claiming that the current filter Napster is using to block downloads of copyrighted material is ineffective. Meanwhile, BS2000, which features Horovitz and Amery "AWOL" Smith, kicks off a tour Tuesday night (April 3) in Minneapolis. -- Darren Davis, New York source: launch.com |
