Beastie Boys turntablist Mixmaster Mike, who is touring with Guns N' Roses will remember the late Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay in his set. Mixmaster Mike has done several shows opening up for Run-DMC, and remembers Jay as "a cool guy." He told LAUNCH that Jam Master Jay's death, which led to the retirement of Run-DMC, is a huge loss. "To me, and to everybody else, they were like the Beatles of hip-hop. I grew up listening to Jam Master Jay and he was a big inspiration to what I do and what I am today. We lost a major general in the game and a legend of hip-hop. It's hard. I had a hard time, but now it's just setting in and it's like, 'What can we do?' Mixmaster Mike told LAUNCH what he'll remember Jam Master Jay for most. "His stage presence was the thing. Him being able to hold down thousands and thousands and thousands of fans with him on the turntables is something of an inspiration to me. Because I'm taking that inspiration and I'm developing it into my own way of being a performer on the turntables. He was a true performer." |
