NEW YORK (AP) — Beastie Boy rapper Adam Horovitz isbranching out. Horovitz has started his own brand of techno band,BS2000, with close friend Amery Smith, who has touredwith the Beastie Boys for years and played drums. Theirdebut album, "Simply Mortified", features 20 songs, eachof which is about two minutes long. "It's not like we're not serious about what we're doing,"Horovitz says in the March issue of Spin magazine, onnewsstands Feb. 5. "When we first stared talking about doing stuff together,techno was getting really large, and we weren't into any ofthat ... Toyota-commercial stuff. So our first record wasabout that — mostly beats, but anti-techno beats. "I guess I don't know what this new one really soundslike," he added. "But I'm excited about that."
