Discover Pöntinen's successful New Release on CD !
On the very latest - Pianorama-Cinematic Music - Roland Pöntinen plays piano music used in films such as Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut", Fellini's "Amarcord", Beineix' "Diva" and Bergman's "Höstsonaten". The music in Amarcord is not originally written for the piano but here Pöntinen improvises a suite in three parts based on Nino Rota's wonderful film score.
On the CD Roland also plays the famous piano piece "Cinema Music" written by his brother Stefan Pöntinen.
"an unalloyed pleasure from beginning to end."
David Hurwitz in ClassicsToday.com
"While not slavishly imitating the film scores, Pöntinen always somehow manages to evoke the appropriate atmosphere. Pöntinen's Chopin has all of the longing, loneliness and drama for which you go to see Ingmar Bergman, and I love the plaintive, symbolism of his sensitive Janácek....
Pöntinen's playing is never less than wonderful, and as expected the recording is faultlessly balanced and atmospheric.
Schubert's Moment musical D780 no.2 is perfectly weighted, and as with many of these performances just leaves you wanting more - preferably in a box set.
Snobs like me might avoid compilations of film classics like the plague, but this carefully selected programme filled with genuine pearls of musicianship will always be kept close to hand in this household from now on !"
