Meeting
with Visitor: You tell us to look inside. Do you mean looking inside with the mind, looking into the mind, seeing what is there and then lettng the mind go? Madhukar: You just use the mind for direction, then you leave the mind because the mind has brought you trouble. V: So the mind cannot actually see... M: Mind cannot enter Truth. Mind cannot access stillness because mind is movement, motion, manifestation. But you need to be initiated into the right direction. V: Can you be more specific when you say "direction"? It is very abstract. Could you explain in a more practical way? M: It is practical and direct. It is not abstract at all. V: Could you explain, please? M: The best explanation is this: (long silence) Stillness, thoughtlessness. This is here and here doesn't need any direction. When you are still separated from this freedom, you must see that the mind is in a state of permanent activity. Even if you think that you are quiet, there still is permanent activity, permanent creation. Each moment the entire universe is being created. Now you just have to find out: Who sees this? Who am I? Very simple! You don't get lost into thought and emotion. You redirect to here, that's all. So it is not abstract at all. You inquire into "I", because this is the first thought, isn't it? When you wake up in the morning the first thought is "I". Then comes "I am this" or "I am that", "I want this" or "I have to do that". This "I" you have to discover. And if you inquire into this "I", you will find out very fast that this "I" is made up of thoughts and emotions, which are just imaginations. They are the thoughts of your parents, of your school teachers, of your spiritual teachers. They have nothing to do with you. From the book "Wake up to Freedom". |
