Saab Sonett V4 #950

Imported to Sweden from Lancaster in California. Fredrik bought this car in October 2003.

8 May 2008 Test at the "Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection Co"

Top

Because the car is imported from USA to Sweden you have to make a special check to prove that the vehicle fulfils the Swedish regulations. Everything went fine during the inspection and Fredrik got a clear inspection report.

29 April 2008 Ready for test run

Top

We have now tested the car and everything seems to work ok.

20 May 2007 Working with the upholstery

Top

We have work the hole 4 days weekend with the car. Starting with mounting the hood, picking up a new rear window at Club Sonett of Sweden and then a lot of work with the upholstery. The only thing left now is mounting the windows.

Movie

Top

The first run went well. Fredrik did it without the driver seat and that's not so easy.

6 May 2007 Engine started

Top

We started the engine today. It sounds very good but we had some troubles with the Weber so we have to take a closer look on that.

1 May 2007 New expansion tank

Top

The old expansion tank was too rusty and it's not easy to find another one to replace it, so Fredrik built a new one from an iron tube. The result is very good.

24 April 2007 Work with hood and upholstery

Top

It was far more easy, compare to #550, to mount everything keeping the hood on the floor.

27 February 2007 Engine back in the car

Top

Now we have put the engine back in the car. 1700cc, 7,3mm camshaft and a Weber 32/36 DGV carb.

17 February 2007 Oil cooler

Top

We mounted an oil cooler inside the grill. We used copper pipes and hoses in each end.

22 December 2006 Painted

Top

We picked up the car from the paint shop just before Christmas. The result was very good.

22 November 2006 Ready for the paint shop

Top

It takes a lot of time to grind the body. The paint job will be cheaper if we spend more time in this stage. However, now it's time to bring it to the paint shop.

16 October 2006 Grinding the body

Top

Now we have started to grind the body. It's soon time to send it to the paint shop.

6 June 2006 Renovation of the V4 engine continues

Top

1700cc motor
- 7.3 camshaft
- All new bearings
- New valves

31 March 2006 Renovation of doors

Top

It’s a lot of work with the doors. We were lucky because it was not that much rust on the doors. We had the sand blastered. We welded a bar right across the door to get some better protection. This was standard on later Sonett’s.

5 March 2006 Body mounted

Top

We tested to mount the body. We have decided to mount the body before we send it to the paint shop.

2 October 2005 Renovation of the V4 engine

Top

Start of the engine renovation.

18 January 2005 Rear axel mounted

Top

The rear axle and new shook absorbers are here mounted.

2 December 2004 Painted parts

Top

Today I picked up almost 100 powder coated parts from the paint shop. The result is fantastic.

3 October 2004 Just finished to spray the undercoat

Top

Both cars are now treated with undercoat. We decided to do that because it’s then possible to drive on gravel roads and it reduces road noise also.

28 August 2004 Chassis painted

Top

We built a tent inside the garage when we painted the cars. It worked out pretty good but the lights and ventilation could have been better.

18 April 2004 Changing rocker panels

Top

The rocker panels had some rust also that became visible after the sand blastering. We replaced them with new ones.

15 February 2004 Changing battery box

Top

It was some rust under the battery. We replaced the bottom of the battery box.
We had to do some more painting with primer to complete the work.

22 January 2004 Renovating the dashboard

The dashboard looked pretty bad but after a couple of hours work it looked quite good.

9 January 2004 Sand blastered and painted

Top

Chassis back in the garage, nice to see the difference.

On the way to sand blaster the chassis. We checked the body. There is some work to do before you can paint it.

4 January 2004

Top

Now the car is in pieces and ready for sand blastering.

25 December 2003 Now the body is off

12 October 2003 The day we bought the car

Top

Here are some pictures from the day Fredrik bought his car. It has been kept in a barn for 3 years. It looks terrible but there is no rust on the chassis.
