Bill Fosher writes on 2006-02-12: I've just started using Flockf\Filer, and like it very much. It's only $50, which included printable (not printed) documentation. See also: www.kensmuir.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=817
Tom Hays writes: FlockFiler Lite ($49.95) is a database for keeping health, management, and breeding records of sheep. FlockFiler Pro ($295) will be released in summer 2005.
While it has many strengths in common with its competitors, FlockFiler Lite has the following valuable features rarely found in others at any price.
At flockfiler.com, you will find the fully-functional demo, user manual in PDF, screen shots, video tutorials in QuickTime, and the online forum. All of these are free to examine with no registration required.

GrazePlan

John Salmon comments: "This spreadsheet is not for the average person - it requires some knowledge of applied maths . I added it here in case any one wanted to change the parameters to bring it more in line with USA conditions." I tried to open it in Excel 8 for Mac, and it doesn't function correctly - Ron Parker
Herd Keeper

Ross McElroy comments: The demo had a
lot of neat features, fairly easy to use too. No doubt it started as a
management tool for pure bred breeders, but it could easily handle data
for commercial sheep and goat breeders too.
Herd Pro

A user comments: Herd Pro has a sheep version of their dairy software, It records Dairy stats for sheep too! A bit awkward but still not dismissed either. Again has a Palm linking version.

Here's another package of sheep management software, this time from Ireland. I know nothing about this one, but you can read about it at www.tgmsoftware.com. Contact George Megarry at info@tgmsoftware.com for additional information.
Lamalogic

A user writes: Lamalogic has a sheep version. GREAT health records and breeding records it's defiantly aimed at purebred breeders or vets. Very nice .
However, anothe user writes: I tried the Lamalogic too (before working with Ovitec). I got it because of the neat health record items and other areas that were very "specific". I think maybe it would be good for folks with 30 or less females, maybe. I paid for the program (Ovitec was free) and it had bigger problems than Ovitec and was not as "logical" about how to navigate. Lamalogic tech support was very "blaming" (they try to act like I did something wrong) and was not willing to help out as much as the Ovitec folks. I'm pretty computer literate, but they kept saying that I must have done this or that. Plus, I wanted a refund after two weeks of problems and they kept just trying to get me to "fix" the problems in the program. As soon as the 30-day money back guarantee period was up, I never heard from them again.

Livestock Management Software
www.winsoftdevelopment.com/Products.htm
A reviewer comments: Winsoft's Livestock Mangement Software looks very promising and should
have a generic version for all animals out some time. Modern and
intelligent software customizes well (though not perfectly) to sheep and
would seem to have a responsive developer looking for input!
Magnum Digital, Inc
Another user comments: I just talked with the programer of the Magum Sheep software. They do have the micron/spinning count portion of the program finished and are sending me
an updated copy. They have had requests from sheep, goat and dairy folks
about a dairy record keeping program. They will be doing thoses also. They
will be add ons to the regular program, additional cost.
I didn't look at any of the other programs, really liked this from the get
go. It was easy to load and easy to use. If the sample program at their site
doesn't offer what you need, email them with what you do need. They are more
than accomodating to get the necessary fields into the programs
Another user comment: The first program had "glitches" in it. They were great about sending another disk to correct it. It too had problems, wouldn't complete the installation. Then emailed a program to correct the problem. It fixed some of it, but not all. As long as the information is on the screen, it works wonderful. Just don't try and print it. I don't know how long till I am able to get it right. The software isn't perfect and is disappointing in that fact. It has been alot of aggravation so far. I hope (and had hoped initially) to sing the praises of this software. I love the on screen data keeping. To be fully effective, it has to print it too.
Ovitec
I was using the free Porcitec/Vaquitec/Cunitec programs from Agritech for my sheep and goat management records. I really like it, even though there are some revisions that could be made. I had a problem with a free update and when I e-mailed the company, they were very helpful, took my database, fixed it and e-mailed it back! They noticed that I was using the Porcitec for goats and mentioned that they could "make" one for if I would let them know what kind of reports were needed, etc. I suggested sheep since there are more sheep breeders around and the sheep version could easily be used for goats. And in just a few days, Voila' Ovitec popped up. I used the free version for a while and I really liked it so I have purchased the full version with multiple farms so I can do both sheep and goats with the one software on the same computer. Their support is wonderful (I work with them mostly over e-mail because I prefer that) and if they can't help you fix something after one e-mail, they will let you e-mail the database and will fix it themselves. They are open to adding things producers need on the main program or they can custom design the programs for you too.
Problems: a lot of Spanish still in the programs (you will see mostly if you venture into designing your own reports instead of just point and click with the offered ones), but it's not an issue because I don't know Spanish and can still design my own reports.
I tried the Lamalogic too (before working with Ovitec). I got it because of the neat health record items and other areas that were very "specific". I think maybe it would be good for folks with 30 or less females, maybe.
