The first 70 tanks were called Strv 103A. The designation later changed to Strv 103B with the introduction of a more powerful engine.

In 1986 the Strv 103C was introduced. Several changes had been made, laser range-finder, new engine and new gearbox are examples.

The Strv 103C was to be replaced by a new modern tank during the 1990īs and when the decision was made to buy German Leopard 2 tanks, it was decided to end the service of the Strv 103C. Many of the Strv 103 tanks have been cut up but there still remains around 40 around the world as museum pieces, many in driveable condition.
