Figurspel / Wargaming

War Hammer 40K:

Ok, I admit, I do have a number of figs... Space Marines... Even though the game system is a little bit too commercialised (there are so many things you have to buy before you can start playing) I feel that the rule system is pretty well worked through.

It all started when my son bought a set of Imperial Guards and then managed to persuade me to buy some figures for myself as well. I picked Space Marines as I wanted a team that is more or less human and the SM felt fairly realistic.  Even though I like the Orcish attitude, I have problems to accept them as a space travelling species

Over the past few years my force has grown and I have also founded my own Chapter, The Defenders of the Frontier. Those fundamentalists out there will most likely go nuts over the team but that is their problem not mine. I have added units from IG and the Witch Hunters (Don't worry, they are all played according to their respective codex). I have also added some figures that is not GW to form a kind of militia from the locals on my planet.

Below you will see my army list and some pictures:

The Defenders Of The Frontier

The banner is inspired by the crest of the Finnish province Karelia. When the crest was designed the province was on the border between Sweden and Russia. The two fencing arms represents the bold and civilised knights from the west fighting the barbaric Mongols (read as Russians) With a slight help from "Photo Shop" the Moskvite was rapidly turner into a "Green skin", an act that has served it's purpose well as it has severely annoyed the Green-skin players at the club (insert evil laughter here).

By the way, there are more deliberate insults in the old Swedish-Finnish heraldic. Just have a look at the Finnish national coat of arms. Here you will see the bold Western Lion trampling on ... a Mongolian (= Russian) sabre.

The points are based upon what is visible on the figures. Hand grenades "psychic powers" and other invisible capabilities is not included.

No army can make it without infantry. Right now I have two 10 men squads like this one. Armed with one rocket launcher, one with a flamer and the rest carrying bolters.

To deliver the final blow I have an elite squad based upon the "Iron Squad-kit". There are 10 figures armed with one flamer, one rocket launcher, one power hammer ( I think) and the rest with bolters.

In their shiny black armour, my assault squad drops on the enemy to deliver death and destruction... well at least some distraction... in order to allow the infantry to catch up...

Captain Korpus is in command, here supported by a Librarian and a regular HQ-squad.

So far my three bikes have not managed to deliver anything vital. Most likely due to poor tactics, but they have seldom survived more then two turns. On the other hand, during these turns they have been tying down some enemy units... so they may have delivered some good after all...

My Scouts. Not tested in battle yet.

Everyone MUST have a land speeder! First time I used it to deliver a "Deep strike" in the back of a horde of Green-skins  and saw the confusion it brought, I realised  it's value. Today I'm the proud owner of three Land-speeder Typhoons.

For some reason I can't explain I love the looks of my IG Sentinels! Just like the bikes ,they have not managed to deliver anything vital... but I just love them. I have three.

The Witchhunters Sisters Repentia & Mistress are so insane that I just have to have a squad! Imagine, some small girl dressed up in nothing but nylon stockings and some rags of cloth, whipped into combat by a fat chick that looks like a a character form a German xxx-movie. Add a set of large chain saws...

Play the  "Amazing grace" special rules when they attack:
- All humanoids have their Ballistic skill reduced to 1 when firing at the squad (Who would like to hurt a little girl?)
- All Humanoids charged by this squad gets paralysed by their beauty and have their weapon skill reduced to 1 in the first round of close combat.

(Ok... there is no such special rule... but it would be cool if there was...)

In my paint shop there are some additional units waiting for the final encounter with the brush:

As this chapter is based on a remote planet where the chain of supply of appropriate war gear is limited, they have to improvise (I know that it's against the nature of a SM to do so, but at least these marines have shown this ability) This contraption is called "the Mosquito". It is based upon a 1:72 Sherman tank and now armed with a heavy bolter. Armour 10 and open top. Not tested in battle yet, so I can not provide any lessons identified.

A gigantic Landraider (who's to ride in it?),
A striped down Dreadnought (clean and with no fancy decorations. After all it's a war machine... period)
A Predator infantry support tank
A nasty Cannoness (that looks just like the local librarian when you finally bring her that book you should have brought last week, and now she will make you pay...) and finally,
a group of Battle sisters, (perhaps the will get the honour to ride the raider?)
