A terrific
American TV show, I was absolutely obessed with for a while. Now, it's been some
time since I watched it, but it still remains one of my favourites. I'm sad to
say, I have not yet seen the last (9th) season of the show, so I don't know the
ultimate "ending"!! I'm trying to save the money to buy it, but it doesn't
exactly come cheap.
I must say, however, I'm not very pleased with the fact that the show went on after David Duchovny decided to leave. I don't have anything against Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish - they are both very talented actors - who came in as new main cahracters, but The X-Files was so focused on these two specific charcters - Agents Mulder and Scully - it didn't really seem right to put in a pair of new agents! Still, I guess I shouldn't say to much until I've seen the last season as well ...
As a fan of The X-Files I like both Mulder and Scully a lot, and I like the fact that Chris Carter decided to change the common gender types - making the male the believer and letting the female be the sceptic. This has become more common now, but was probably quite unusual in 1993, when The X-Files aired for the first time.
There are few
episodes and storylines of the show I don't like, but mostly I'm fond of the
mythology episodes!! They are very exciting and revealing and I love the fact
that they don't offer any easy solutions, not for the characters and not for the
audiences! It's nice to see that events occuring very early on in the show,
proving important later on!
Some of my favourite characters, beside Fox Mulder and Dana Scully include:
A.D.
Skinner
He is an interesting character, that for a long time we
didn't really know much about. Sometimes he's very strict, goes by the book and
obeys orders from his FBI superiors, but then all of a sudden he can change and
support Mulder and Scully in some unorthodox investigation!
Cigarette-Smoking Man
The ultimate villain!
He is a
very cool character and William B. Davies performs excellently!! It was also
nice to see the hints that were dropped surrounding him - he had an affair with
Mulder's mother, he may be the father of Mulder or his sister, Samantha,
and then - in season seven - a hint that CSM may not be completely evil ... A
little trivia - William B. Davies has been a smoker, but quit sometime before
landing this part on The X-Files. He is therefore puffing herbal
cigarettes on the show!
Deep
Throat
Mulder's first "inside connection" and my favourite!! He was a
kind, polite and very nice man, but you never really knew his ultimate purpose,
which makes him rather interesting. Unfortunately, Deep Throat was killed in the
season one finale, "The Erlenmeyer Flask". I heard an interview with Jerry
Hardin (who played Deep Throat), where he tells about the time he got the script
to "The Erlenmeyer Flask" and found out he was going to be killed off. On the
script, Chris Carter had attached a note, saying, "No one really dies on
X-Files"!!
Deep
Throat did appear two other times, in dream sequences in epsiodes "The Blessing
Way" (Season 3) and "The Sixth Extinction" (Season 7).
Alex
Krycek
A very cool
- and
good-looking
-
character!! You'll never know what Krycek is up to, and that contributes to the
charm of the character! Originally, Krycek was introduced as an FBI agent,
becoming Mulder's partner when Scully went missing in Season 2. After a little
while, we realised he was in fact working for CSM and he vanished ... only to
re-appear here and there when trouble was brewing!
