[ Favourite Characters ] [ Favourite Episodes ]

The first TV show I really really loved, it has stayed a favourite over the years. Set in the small, outback town Coopers Crossing, Australia, the show deals with the town people and the staff of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which has a base in Coopers Crossing.

Originally, a mini-series of six episodes was produced, but it was such a success, Crawford Productions decided to continue the show, and it eventually became 221 episodes (not including the mini-series).

Some of my FAVOURITE CHARACTERS!

Dr. Tom Callaghan
My number one favourite character!
Dr. Tom Callaghan has a lot of good qualities, and I love the way he stands up for Chris when she first arrives in Coopers Crossing. I always thought Tom and Chris were perfect for eachother, adn I was devastated when Tom left for Africa! Lucikly for me, he later returned to Coopers Crossing, although very changed by his experiences in Africa. Nothing happened between him and Crhis, and Tom left the show after having been injured in a cave accident. He then returned to the Crossing for the big celebration in "The Good Book" (episode 201), and he and Chris finally realised they were meant to be together!

Dr. Chris Randall
A wonderful lady, very warm and very caring! She went through the normal hassles when she first arrived in Coopers Crossing, but later earned the trust of the town people. I was happy when she and tom became a couple, as I like them both a lot - but I was equaly sad when Tom left for Africa. Chris went through a lot during the show; she had a relationship with a married man, which didn't turn out very well, she learned how the fly and got a pilot certificate - totally cool - and she became fatally ill when a tumour was discovered on her aorta!
Nothing really happened when Tom returned from Africa, they continued to be good friends, nothing else. Chris left Coopers Crossing for Melbourne, when she found out her father was dying, but returned in "The Good Book", and decided to spend her life with Tom!

Emma Plimpton/Patterson
The town mechanic and also the winner of the titles "Miss Coopers Crossing" and "Queen of the Outback". Emma is a very gutsy, straight-forward, honest and beautiful lady, and young pilot Sam Patterson fell for her the minute he layed eyes on her. She wasn't quite as impressed by him though, but eventually Sam took her to the altar. They became very happy together, and fairly soon, Emma became pregnant. Unfortunately, she had a mis-carriage, and she became very depressed. It's not really clear when and why Sam and Emma left Coopers Crossing, but Emma returned in "The Good Book", and we find out she and Sam live in Sydney with two children, Grant and Kirsty.

DJ
The very cool, very greek, very funny radio operator - you just have to love him! He had a lot of fun in front of the radio, but had some family problems. His father desperately wanted DJ to take over the family business in Greece, and was rather harsh when he came to visit. DJ didn't want to leave the Crossing and tried to prove to his father that he belongs in Australia. When his father realised DJ was happy in Coopers Crossing, DJ realised blood is thicker than water, and decided to go back to Greece. DJ also returns in "The Good Book", and everybody was really happy to see him - except perhaps Clare ...

Jack Carruthers
The friendly townie policeman is a lovely character, but sometimes he has problems dealing with his proffession versus his personal life and friends ... like when Vic and Hurtle had to stand trial for aiding in a car theft, or when Dougie was arrested for assult. He deeply loves Chris, but unfortunately she does not feel the same way for her. It's lovely to see how Jack supports Chris when she's ill, accepting that she only wants them to be friends.

Some of my FAVOURITE EPISODES!

Will To Survive / Trial By Gossip
This first two-parter is a great introduction to the show. I feel very sorry for Chris when she arrives, and nothing seems to work out for her, but it's lovely to see Tom honour old Dr. Sinclair, when he totally supports Chris. The big drama of the episode is the difficult operation Chris has to perform along under harsh conditions. After this, she is even more alienated from the town people, who think she made a bad decision. Naturally, it is a happy-ending eventually and Chris decides to stay in Coopers Crossing.

Family Secrets Parts 1 & 2
A very emotional set of episodes, focusing on Geoff and Kate's relationship. It also gives quite an insight to Geoff's character as we learn a lot about his family and his background. I really feel awfully sorry for Kate when she's being so manipulated by Geoff's brother, Barry.

Gotta Have Friends
A lovely episode in which Geoff and Kate's relationship really deepens ... and ends with Geoff proposing! I also like the comedy aspects of the episode, when Geoff has to treat a female patient named Drusilla ... who happens to be a donkey suffering from depression!

Fly Past
Tom's return from Africa is on eof my favourite episodes. At first, it just seems like Tom has become to good for his friends and he acts very strangely. However, it turns out he has in fact had some horrible experiences that has changed him a lot, and he can't leave those experiences behind him just yet.

None So Blind
A very good episode, where Geoff and Kate's relationship is really put to the test. Kate runs the risk of becoming permanently blind, after getting battery acid splashed in her eyes, and I love seeing Geoff's great affection for his wife! The moment when he is taking off her bandages ... it's wonderful!

Family
The birth of Scarlett Louisa Standish is of course a great event in Cooper's Crossing! Geoff's old friend, Colin, is there to help out, but it turns out he's an alcoholic and refuses to tell Geoff. Things get very bad when Scarlett falls ill and there's nobody around to operate except Colin!

The Good Book
My number one favourite episode, this one sees the returning of lots of old favourite characters - like Tom, Chris, DJ, Jack, Emma ... and naturally, George Baxter! Of course, I love seeing Tom and Chris finally getting together!!

Life Lessons
A great ending to this wonderful show! Scarlet turns one year old, and is given very memorable Life Lessons from her father. I love the ending of the episode, where everybody gets together and help save lives in whatever way they can! It somehow gives the idea that there is a real Coopers Crossing out there somewhere with all these great characters that will forever be there, working to save lives!
