I totally love
spending time at my summerhouse (technically, I own half of it, my Dad owns the
other half)! Unfortunately, it's almost 500 kilometres from where I live, so I
can't go there as often as I'd like.
The place actually has a bit of history to it. Not long from our house is a large Mansion and earlier the Mansion had lots of land to go with the house and garden. Some time ago, part of the land was sold off - but the land surrounding the Mansion is still pretty vast, the owners of the Mansion even has their very own island in a lake nearby! - but there are now four summerhouses on the lands that previously belonged to the Mansion. And ours is one of them!
My parents
bought the land, about 7000 square meters, in 1974, but didn't bother doing much
about it. When they found out Mom was pregnant with me, they decided to build a
summerhouse and cleared the land. The house was built in 1978, the same year I
was born, so we're the same age!
When my
parents got divorced in 1993, Mom gave her half to me, so my Dad and I own it
together.
There are
numerous rather rare trees and plants on our land, I think that is because it
once belonged to the Mansion. They had vast gardens and gardeners who planted
all sorts of things ... and they spread of course, leaving us to enjoy them now!
When I was a kid we always spent all summer in the summerhouse, and some
Christmases as well. My Mom didn't work when I was little, so as soon as my Dad
got his vacation in the beginning of June, we packed the car and went to the
summerhouse. Often we stayed there until mid-August, when my Dad had to start
working again.
Of course,
there's a lot of work to be done, to keep the property in shape, but it is a
wonderful place, I love it so much - and I usually refer to it as my own little
Paradise on Earth!
I
hope I can pass on that wonderful feeling to my future children some day!
Here are some pictures from the summerhouse! Isn't it absoultely fantastic?!?!
