Miss Saigon is a wonderful, yet very sad, musical. I saw it with my Mom in Stockholm in January 1998. It is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the two French chaps who has enjoyed great success with Les Misérables.

Miss Saigon deals with the Vietnam war, and the after effects of it. We follow a young american soldier named Chris, and the horrors that awaits him when he goes to war. In Vietnam, Chris meets a beautiful girl named Kim, and they fall deeply in love. Kim gets pregnant, but the couple gets separated, and Chris returns to America. Kim is left to bring up her son on her own, which isn't easy. In Vietnam, these "half-breed" children were treated very badly. Chris goes on with his life - not knowing he in fact has a son! - and gets married. After the war, Chris' friend John starts taking an interest in the war-children, and manages to locate Kim and her son, Tam. Chris decides to go and see them, and Kim realises her son would have a much better chance of a good life in America with his father. Kim can't go with him, not when Chris is married to an american woman, so when Tam and Chris have met, Kim decides to take her life.

This is a very emotional musical, which is beautifully created with a lot of wonderful songs! If you haven't experienced it, I strongly recommend it!!
