Roger Moore
does an excellent entre in the Bond world with this 8th movie in the series!
Moore was a candidate for the part of James Bond already in 1962, but was
considered too young at the time. Roger Moore introduced another side of Bond
with his nice sense of humour and raised eyebrows. Connery had had some funny
one-liners, but the real comedy aspect of the Bond genre was introduced with
Roger Moore.
This is a very good Bond film, and an interesting twist is that the two villains - Mr. Big and Dr. Kananga - turned out to be one and the same! The most memorable villain, according to me, is TeeHee, he's very creepy with his arm of steel and his friendship with crocodiles and alligtors. Another creepy villain is Baron Samedi ... he doesn't seem to do a lot of evil deeds, but he is very scary - even more so as we see him in the very end, laughing hysterically while sitting on the train where Bond and Solitaire are - high creep factor! It would have been very cool to see him do an appearance in another Bond movie!!
A young Jane Seymour does a wonderful performance in the movie, and her Tarot Cards will forever leave a mark in the Bond genre. However, I can't say I approve of Bond's way of making Solitaire loose her virginity ... not very nice!
Felix Leiter in the movie is my very favourite! There have been different actors playing Bond's pal from CIA in previous movies, but David Hedison is just the way I pictured Felix to be! Therefore I was very pleased to see the actor making a reappearance as Felix Leiter in Licence To Kill!
