I am not a huge fan of Tolkien, I have not yeat read any books by him except The Lord of the Rings-triology, but I like those books very much!! And naturally, I hope to be able to read some more of Tolkien's books to learn more about Middle-Earth and it's history.

When I heard that Peter Jackson was going to make these huge movies based on the books, I became interested and hafter having read fantasy books by David Eddings earlier, I figured I'd have a go at The Lord of the Rings. I was stunned - the triology is terrific, and for those of you who haven't read it yet, I strongly recommend it!

The books are very well-written and very exciting! I like thorough description of Middle-Earth, it really creates a great sense of reality. I read somewhere that Tolkien wanted it to feel like Middle-Earth actually was real, that it had existed someplace, somewhere, a long time abgo ... adn I do think he achieved that! The whole world he has created feels very real and that is one thing that makes these books so great!
There are lots of wonderful characters in the books, some of my favourites are Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn and Gollum!
