One of my favourite authors is american writer Patricia Cornwell. I am particularly fond of the Kay Scarpetta-series, I have got almost all of them, but have not yet read "Blowfly" or "Trace".
The characters of the books are very likable and very realistic. My favourite is, of course, Kay, and I like the fact that she is not the "perfect heroine" who never makes a mistake, as some main characters tend to be described as. Instead we get to see Kay's bad sides and habits as well as the good ones, and that makes her easy to like and, in some ways, easy to relate to.
I'm also very fond of Pete Marino! I like to see the way he grows through the series, and it's nice to see the way he loves Kay, yet has the good sense not to tell her that, or act on his feelings.
One character I am not very fond of, but still enjoy reading about, is Kay's niece Lucy. I think Lucy is a tough character to understand, she's not always the most pleasant person. Still, I find her very interesting, she's come from a difficult childhood and managed to work her own way out of it. It's interesting to see what has driven her to make the choices she does.
Benton Wesley is another wonderful character! I always felt he and Kay would be perfect for eachother, and I was very disturbed - to say the least - when I read "Point of Origin".

Patricia Cornwell has written another series of books as well, about Virginia West, Judy Hammer and Andy Brazil. I have read the first two books of the series, and although they are well-written and exciting, the character descriptions aren't that good, and they don't hold the same standard as the Scarpetta books.
