2nd 1997. took the train down to gothenburg, we got there pretty early.
decided to go and check out some record stores before the show (which we
always do when were down there!). bought a couple of cds. went back to nordstan
to eat. headed for ullevi. the first thing that we saw of the stage was
the golden arch and the olive. went inside the arena, found our seats. sat
down and red the newspaper which we got outside (it was an u2 special).
audioweb from manchester opened the show. after them it was time for howie b's set. he played a lot of stuff and then at around ten o'clock..... pop muzik! the band arrived and started mofo. i will follow was next. things were looking really good. gone was the third number of the evening and it was followed by even better than the real thing! the video screen was amazing! last night on earth started with a cartoon on the huge video screen. the song also featured bono singing "we've been here before.... gothenburg, not at this stadium.... we've been here before.... sitting at the dock of the bay. we've been here before.... watching the tide roll away.... ". until the end of the world was great! then, new year's day, pride (in the name of love) and i still haven't found what i'm looking for/all i want is you in a row! wow! pride... ended with the crowd singing. bono thanked the crowd and started to tell how they (u2) had played in gothenburg in 1980/81. i still haven't found what i'm looking for featured the whole stadium on vocals! :-) after all i want is you bono said, "it's a cool looking stadium, isn't it? i love these!" an acoustic version of staring at the sun was next. "ok, let's cut all this folk crap! i think it's time to rock!", karaoke time! the edge sang daydream believer. this is the biggest karaoke machine i've ever seen! miami followed. during bullet the blue sky (which featured a little bit of i want to live in america) the sky was lit up by spotlights! really cool looking! please slowed things down a little. where the streets have no name got the whole stadium jumping. this was the last song of this part of the set. lemon (perfecto mix) started. the gigantic lemon on the right side of the stage started moving towards the smaller stage. it opened up and the band stepped out. they performed discotheque/all that she wants/black betty on the small stage. if you wear that velvet dress and with or without you was also performed there. with or without you ended this part of the show. hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me was the first encore. mysterious ways was the second. during it bono thanked the crowd once again. a great version of one was the perfect end to this show. this had been a great day! u2's performance was brilliant! 48000 fans going crazy is a pretty cool thing to see! |
