the bus from the railway station to stockholm. arrived, went inside and
bought a tour program and a t-shirt. sat down and waited.....
skid row opened the show. they did their job. guns started their set with nightrain and the globe went crazy! axl noticed this and said something like "this is the most fuckin' enthusiastic crowd i've seen in a loooong time" during nightrain. after that they played mr. brownstone. the third song of the night was a new one called bad obsession (this was also the first of four new songs that they played in a row!). the first cover of the evening was a rocking version of the wings' live and let die. then it was time for mr. izzy stradlin to sing a song, dust n' bones (this was the first time i heard him sing!)! after that one, gn'r performed, as axl introduced it, double talkin' jive motherfucker which lead into a guitar solo by slash. that lead into civil war (the first song in a long time that we'd actually heard before!). after civil war slash continued his solo. rod stewart's i was only joking was used as an intro to patience. patience was performed as an electric version. then came you could be mine which was a hit that summer. november rain followed. axl played the piano on this one. then, "do you know where the fuck you are? you're in the jungle stockholm! wake up, it's time to die!" welcome to the jungle! amazing! the band finished the song and it was time for matt sorum to show us why he was in the band, matt's drum solo. matt performed his solo, duff helped out and they were joined by slash. they performed the godfather theme. rocket queen followed and after that, it was time for the sing along, knockin' on heaven's door. that was the last song of the set. the first encore was sweet child o' mine. the second encore was estranged, which featured really cool guitar melodies by slash! the show ended with paradise city! what a show this had been! the gn'r show was my first big rock concert. this show was held a month before the use your illusion albums were released. so we got to hear songs live before we'd heard them on the albums! this was a little strange. when i got the albums i remember hearing songs and then thinking didn't they play this in stockholm? right now it seems that axl's the only original member left in gn'r. i'm glad that i got to see them live with slash & co still in the band. in 1991 they were the best live band in the world! |
there's
no logic here today
do as you got to, go your own way
i said that's right
time's short your life's your own
and in the end
we are just
dust n' bones
guns n' roses - dust n' bones
