as usual the trip began in the morning. we (our driver kalle, my brother, a friend of mine called pasi and i) started the drive to Stockholm at around 10. i had prepared special road trip mini discs for the occasion. We decided to take it easy and have a lunch break in örebro. We arrived there after a couple of hours. had lunch and continued the trip. at around three we arrived at the globe. We found the parking garage, parked the car and went to check out the globe. We wandered around for a bit, bought t-shirts and then it was time for "dinner". waiting.... at around 18:30 they opened the doors and we went inside. i bought a coffee mug. We found our seats and waited.... a couple of minutes after 19:30 the special guests, fad gadget, entered the stage. i hadn't heard fad gadget before. they were pretty cool. the singer, frank tovey, was pretty energetic! :-) easy tiger started at around 20:50! there they were, depeche mode! after the instrumental version of dream on they continued with the dead of night and dave entered the stage. They followed that with another track from exciter called the sweetest condition. At the end of the track, Dave said: "is there anybody out there?", "i can't hear you!" and a "well good evening Stockholm!" halo, from violator, was next. a great song and it was really nice to hear it live. walking in my shoes started of with a pretty cool bass intro. dream on with a little sing along was next. time for two slower songs, when the body speaks and waiting for the night. The latter featured some nice projections (raindrops). it created a cool atmosphere for the song. Time for martin to take over on lead vocals. sister of night was performed as a piano ballad. again they used some cool projections. this time it was a landscape. Sister of night was followed by breathe. Dave took over on lead vocals again on freelove. Again it was time for some crowd participation. The crowd sang "oooh, just freelove" and the band replied with "freelove". the next song woke up the crowd, i mean those who hadn't woken up already. it was time for enjoy the silence! the whole globe was clapping along to this one. Dave let the crowd sing the choruses ("all i ever wanted, all i ever needed, is here in my arms, words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm"). the song even featured a little "drum solo" and a little guitar solo by martin. how do you follow a track like that? the answer is, with i feel you! this one started with an extended drum intro before the guitar kicked in. in your room slowed things down a little bit. Again they used projections (a gold fish and a shark). another song featuring projections was a track from ultra called it's no good. The projections on this one featured a little movie with the band and a text in four parts: --- "let's face IT, ultimately i am just a customer here and the world is a big place though getting smaller by the minute and warmer too if you believe the reports or look out of the window for that matter and sitting here with a coffee and tea and this waitress the temperature starts rising inside as well - not that this will have an impact on me long-term but it could get uncomfortable for a bit."
"like i just thought it IS getting hotter in here with her giving me all her attention and i don't need any right now, i am fine. if i wanted and i could slap my show on the counter like comrade chruchov during the cold war which is an aptly named period when you look back on it and in sharp contrast to the hot temperature i currently find myself in."
"she has defintely got got the hots for me and i feel that as a paying customer i should be in charge but NO, i feel powerless in this situation- it is a bit of a stand-off like between china and america; always wondered if the chinese being in greater numbers than the americans do feel powerfull knowing the other party is on average taller - would that influence andy decision making at all on the powerstruggle front i wonder."
"that is just so typical and i thought nobody cared about lower mathematics, there is two of them and so i find myself outnumbered. GOOD riddance i say, these power games on this level are not for me. turning
the other cheek is a healthy reaction and as a pacifist that would be
my answer to to this kind of situation. --- (by the way, i found that on usenet). personal Jesus was another crowd favorite. during the "reach out and touch faith" part, a lot of hands went up in the air. once again the crowd helped on vocals. :-) first song of the encores was home with martin on lead vocals. clean was next! it sounded great with real drums. next up was black celebration. Once again, they used anton corbijn's projections. The last song of the evening was never let me down again. It featured the classic waving. The whole arena was waving during this one. what a great way to end this show! at around 22:50 the house lights went on. The show was better than the one i saw in 1998. the band seemed to be in a better mood. The only complaint i have is that the crowd wasn't as good as the one in gothenburg in 1998. a lot of people seemed bored during some of the slower songs. i got home at around 3:30. |
