Fly fishing in Suobbat Lake 2005

It was in the middle of June that Michael and I decided to fish in Suobbat a lake deep in the forest in Lapland. The name is probably a name that the same people gave the lake a long time ago. After a rather long drive thru the big taiga forest we arrived to the lake. It was a wonderful day with almost no clouds and a little breeze that made the leaves move. Not ideal for fishing but a nice day anyway.

We started with traditional wet fly fishing. A purple Zulu as top dropper with a teal fly with red body and gold rib as point fly. We fished for a while and the biggest fish I got to the boat was a grayling about one kilo. Michaels got two graylings at half a kilo each.

After some coffee, sausages and couple sandwiches we were reedy to try our luck once more. This time we fished with a dry fly, a black klinkhammer size 12. After a while I managed to catch a rainbow trout while Michael lost at least three big trout’s.

The rain clouds were gathering around the lake and it was getting rather late at night, so we decided drive home. It was a nice fishing trip with good fly fishing up into the taiga of Lapland Sweden. When we left this beautiful lake the fish was still raising to the surface under the midnight sun.
