THE SOCIETY OF COLLECTORS
OF ICELANDIC STAMPS
- What about the Society of Collectors
of Icelandic Stamps ?
-
- It is well known that Iceland is one of the
most popular countries för Swedish stamp collectors.
The Society, which was established 1962, has grown to be one
of largest philatelatic
associations in Sweden with presently approximately 275 members.
Our society
- is also the largest association in the world
specializing in collecting Icelandic stamps.
We like to mention that no less than 60 of our members are resident
outside of Sweden. The major part of these members are residents
in the other Nordic countries.
21 collectors from Iceland have decided to become members of
our society to get access to our member magazine the "Rapport"
and also to be informed about the objects listed for our auctions.
As quite a number of collectors of Icelandic stamps also are
interested in collecting stamps from the Faroes, Greenland and
the Danish West Indies, some of our activities relate to these
areas. Clearly, however, our main interest is Iceland.
-
- What can the Society do for its members ?
-
- We have one meeting every month with the
exception for the period June- August.
Our meetings are held in premises centrally located in Stockholm.
The main topic of our meetings is our mutual interest. In addition,
shorter lectures are given and interesting collections are displayed
by the members.
Our members usually bring barter objects to most meetings. A
small auction is normally on the agenda. Our auctions are always
preceded by of presentation of the relevant objects.
Our member magazine, the "Rapport" (Report), is issued
four times every year.
The magazine deals with matters related to our Society, includes
short paragraphs on both old and new stamps and reports fairly
extensive on new research findings.
You will also find responses to submitted questions, some general
news from Iceland and other various related matters.
Icelandic cancellations and postal docummentation are also recurring
topics as the Society is presently working with the production
of manuals of Icelandic cancellations.
There is usually one main auction held every year. These auctions
are alternately held in Stockholm and in Göteborg. An illustrated
list of objects included in theauction is published in advance.
Yoy will find opportunities both to buy and to sell at collector-friendly
prices with a low commission.
-
- Our activities offer an environment, which
enables you to increase your knowledge about Icelandic philately
and also presents excellent opportunities to enlarge your collection
in the most favourable way.
-
- How much is the
charge for your membership?
The annual membership fee is SEK 80 for members of the Society
of collectors of Icelandic stamps and of the Club for collectors
of Icelandic stamps in Göteborg as well as for other members.
Young members pay a reduced fee amounting to SEK 20 only. The
reduced fee is applicable up to and including the calendar year
during which the young member reaches the age of 18 years.
Anyone joining the society after 1st November one year pays only
one annual membership fee for the 13- or 14-months period ending
31st December the following year. There is no admission fee.
Should you join our Society ?
Our Society rates among its members well-known
established large-scale collectors as well as beginners, who
just recently have started to collect Icelandic stamps.
Our Society is suitable for everyone, who is interested in collecting
stamps from Iceland - this very exciting collection area - and
who wishes to get into contact with other collectors with the
same interest.
Your membership will offer you excellent opportunities to complete
