ZaKrawallgeier - Who are the members of the band and what instrument does each of them play?

Totalscorn (me) for vocals and concepts. I. Hate plays drums, most of the guitars, and is big on arrangements. Nil plays guitars since the formation of the band. Gideon is new on bass.

Krawallgeier - How did the band form?

Me and Nil and another guy called Zagrash started Zavorash back in 1996. Recorded our first demo in a goddamn living-room (named Studio Satan humorously) and then we recruited I. Hate and recorded our second demo in his studio. After that we all started hating each other, I left the country, and it was years later that Selbstmord signed us all for further releases.

Krawallgeier - How would you describe your music style?

Nihilistic black metal straight to the point. We've been compared to pretty much everything brutal enough within the scene, like Dark Funeral or Immortal, but in the end I'd say we've got a rather distinct sound of our own.. we did so especially in the beginning of course.

Krawallgeier - Which bands are your paragons?

None, really. Everyone in Zavorash likes different shit, to the point in fact where we don't hang out much outside the framework of our work. But to mention a few bands that I think we can all agree are sweet deals I'd like to mention Dodheimsguard, Mayhem, Satyricon, Emperor, and along those lines. So the only paragon is Norway

Krawallgeier - Do you follow these bands? / Do you copy these bands?

Well, no, given my last answer that would be kind of difficult don't you think? Of course, one can never really exclude any possibility of being influenced, and sometimes bad luck will just simply make something sound "copied" but in our case we've never done that on purpose, and even though we've had worries in the studio sometimes nobody outside the band has ever accused us of not being original in our performance.

Krawallgeier - How do your songs come into excistence?

The poems that go as lyrics are written by myself exclusively (up until now) and I write them whenever I feel like it. The musical work is done separately, individually by those with instruments, and it is in the studio that we come together and mold everything together. It might not be the most conclusive way of working, but it is certainly the most interesting one.

Krawallgeier - What about gigs? Do you have many gigs?

No gigs planned officially, unofficially Selbstmord Services are expecting us for gigs in the next two years. We played live once before we got a record-deal and that was many years ago.

Krawallgeier - Are they well attended?

Yeah, I'm sure they will be... Like fucking black metal religious crusade events! Modern nihilists might not have a Kabbala to worship but they do have Zavorash. Right...

Krawallgeier - Are the people content with your live-Performance?

Not us, anyway. Most of us don't even want to play live for different reasons.

Krawallgeier - How is the reaction of the people refered to your music style? Any criticism?

People seem to like our work professionally and hate us personally. That's sort of my relationship to Marduk (hehe) so in my opinion it's all good. These days I get alot of contacts for our first materials. I have little or no idea what our new album will be thought of as. There's been criticism in the past of course, but most of the negative criticism don't seem to reach us (the artists) for various reasons - so we tend to focus on those who like us. It's more fun, more pragmatic even. We got like one "bad" review for "In Odium Veritas" for example - all the internet-zines and others we sent it to fucking seemed to cum in their pants, but Close-Up (major Swedish music-mag.) had to add a few negative pennies. Shit like that is hilarious.

Krawallgeier - Why do you make music? (mission, passion, expression, hobby)

My mission is to rid the world of religion (a profound open-end ridiculous goal that entails much more than just burning down churches), my passion is black metal and the hopes, dreams, and opinions within this genre, naturally Zavorash is an expression for all this and it goes without saying that I view it is a hobby above all else. So, to put in short terms: I work on this project for EVERY consceivable reason, yes sir, even as a means of getting on the good side with chicks.

Krawallgeier - Let’s talk about your albums. / Tell us something about your albums?

Well, the first one (released right now) is not so much an album as a mish-mash of old material that deserves a full-scale release (apperantly). It's our second demo "In Odium Veritas" with three or two extra songs depening on how one views it. Some will promote this album as a real album, while Selbstmord is promoting it as a MCD while charging full price for it so there's been some misunderstandings here. Our first Real full-length album entitled "NASD" is finnished and ready for release next year. There's some initial reviews on our website (credits à Lunar Hypnosis Radio) and the response so far is promising indeed. "NASD" is, as should be the case, much more advanced and thouroughly worked through than any previous releases from Zavorash. I've got nothing more to say, it's just pretentious for me to describe my own creation. All I know is that "NASD" will be percieved as controversial (within black metal context) due to some "original" messages and concepts put on it: It's not "evil" Zavorash lacks, but we certainly lack the stupidity that makes most "satan-stance-shouting" the general idea of black metal. FUCK RELIGION, ALL OF IT.

Krawallgeier - What about the future of the band. Have you got some plans or do you just wait and see?

New recording and new releases in 2005 as it looks right now. Other than that it's all about meeting demand really, because beyond the work we do in the studio it's all marketing one way or another.

Krawallgeier - Is there anything you want to tell the people out there? Like a final say?

The path to clarity lies through debonairity. Hails.
