On a rear engine car the transmission are of the type trans-axle. There are
quite few transmissions to chose among, and expensive if you need real strong
ones. How strong gearbox do I need and how long will it last? are common
questions. Well it depends on your vehicle weight and road grip and off course your
driving style and the amount of mileage you intend to put into it
For a light sports car you drive occasional, Audi and Renault are quite ok. You
can prolong the life of it by adding oil cooling.
And if we compare the cost of the two against the more sophisticated, you can
afford a change every 3 year or so
The only drawback is the available gearing, they are made for smaller weaker
more hi revs engines, and are geared accordingly
If you have a stronger V8 you won't have much use of the 1st gear
The choices are: from most common to more sophisticated and stronger, more expensive.
Clutch
Next challange is a lightweight clutch assembly, with dual discs, more on that later
