Elenette is a swedish pop group based in Stockholm, which was formed as an idea and concept many years ago, but as a working band in this constellation fall 2006. Elenette is about word games and subtle humour; about using and misusing worn-out clichés; and about a theoretical approach [more brains than heart] to pop music in general. In short, Elenette is an interesting pop group with brilliant lyrics. Neurosor is their long awaited debut album.

The Name

Elenette is, inspired by french and it's feminine grammatical gender, a re-writing of the natural logarithm of 1 which equals 0. That is: ln(1)=0 (in swedish, when read out, ln(1) sounds the same as elenette). The natural logarithm, formerly known as the hyperbolic logarithm, is the logarith to the base e, where e is an irrational constant approximately equal to 2.718281828459. In simple terms, the natural logarithm of a number x is the power to which e would have to be raised to equal x - for example the natural log of e itself is 1 because e raised to 1 = e, while the natural logarithm of 1 would be 0, since e raised to 0 = 1. Conclusion: Elenette equals zero.

The Mission

"The performance of Elenette plays upon the distinction between the anatomy of the performer and the gender that is being performed. But we are actually in the presence of three contingent dimensions of significant corporeality: anatomical sex, gender identity, and gender performance. if the anatomy of the performer is alreade distinct from the gender of the performer, and both of those are distinct from the gender of the performance, then the performance suggests a dissonance not only between sex and performance, but sex and gender, and gender and performance. As much as Elenette creates a unified picture of 'man' (what its critics often oppose), it also reveals the distinctness of those aspects of gendered experience which are falsely naturalized as a unity through the regulatory fiction of heterosexual coherence. In imitating gender, Elenette implicitly reveals the imitative structure of gender itself [...]."
