very, very exclusive news:
the smalto fashion
show in paris, france!
here's a report by our secret agent greg...
"i got an invitation to go to that famous smalto fashion show on wednesday evening !!!
in a few words, the show happened at the cirque d'hiver, an old vestige from the past still used for shows and stuff, shaped as a circus, that is
round. the catwalk was circular too, with an entrance on on side, above which there was a stage where our dear
eggstone performed probably their strangest gig to date (in front of a huge audience anyway)!!
they had to keep up the timing with the walking of the models, that is two song for the men suits, two songs for the bathing suits, and so on.
and sometimes they had to end up their song earlier so that it would match the end of each fashion sequence.
but they did it in a very professional way.
the whole thing lasted hardly half an hour though, and they played about 8 songs, that were
'still all stands still', 'the dog', 'see the good things', 'she's perfect',
'marabous', 'wrong heaven', 'brass' and 'my trumpets'. and it was of course not that loud, but I think it matched perfectly the atmosphere of the show.
after the show, i went backstage and got to talk with patrik, still asking questions about the next album.
well, i'm afraid we're not close to get a hand on it soon, since the way he mentioned its making was very vague, with stuff like "oh you know, we've got lots of stuff to work on still" and so on...
i'm telling you christmas is the earliest we should expect it... patrik was (as
per and maurits) dressed in smalto, of course, for the occasion. very smart, with blue shirt and pants for
patrik, pink for maurits, and a knee-long grey jacket for per. i had five seconds talk with
gorgeous maurits, shying away in some nook as ever, and couldn't get to talk with
per, who had already disappeared at the cocktail lounge with burgalat (who incidentally had played guitar on stage along with them on
'brass'). ah, and one last thing : bryan ferry was here indeed, but sitting in the front row and guess what? he didn't move his ass from his seat all show
long!"

(first, some new news:)
eggstone are scheduled to play live in paris on july the 7th, but for a very peculiar occasion: the
francesco smalto's (the clothes designer, y'know?) new collection fashion show.
from what i understood, bryan ferry will be hosting the show (will he sing? will he talk? beats me...) while
eggstone will play their music.
(and now, some old news:)
"vibrafon records and danish label crunchy frog will be joining forces for a whole day of musical happenings at this year's
malmöfestival."
the event, called
vibracrunch, will take place on august 14th in malmö (where else?). egstone will not (98,6 % sure) perform on this day, though...

the adventures of eggstone in france - part
three:
tuesday 1 june, 1999
- live performance/radio broadcast
cabaret sauvage, la villette, paris, france
eggstone came last on stage, between, say, 0.30 and 1.30 in the morning, which was quite late.
they performed about 12 songs (i haven't counted actually) amongst which
'still all stands still', 'sun king', 'april may', 'against the sun', 'supermeaningfectlyless',
'wrong heaven', 'beach boy', 'the dog', 'if you say' (with a weird very slow
intro) and some more... they were brilliant, per was kicking on stage as ever.
after, he told me that he thought the show wasn't as perfect as i said, but
i think that was pure humbleness... i asked him why they didn't play 'good
morning', one of my favorites, and he said it was one of their hardest song to play, and when
i mentioned 'taramasalata' he said they had just forgotten to play it!
(...)
after the concert,
i talked mainly with patrik, then per, merely grasping a smiling grunt from
maurits, ever so shy... i tried to get some more info about the new album, even asked for a possible title, but it seems to be the world's best kept secret!
patrik wouldn't say anything, nor did per. i also asked them about the so-called
'theremin song' (that's how i called it) and asked them if it had a title yet.
per told me that they had lyrics for it, but when they were about to record the voices, the band thought the sounds of the lyrics didn't quite match with the music.
that it was too soft for such joyful music, and that they had to come up with more "edgier, rougher words".
so from what i understand the song is still on stand-by, and anyway they're still working on the whole album.
i'm afraid it won't be ready until a few months, like for christmas or something.
unless all he said was bullshit and that they're practically done but want to surprise
everyone! (i doubt it though).
i asked them about their live performances in the future, and per told me that they might do a concert at a summer
festival in eweden (in the south) but i'm sorry, i can't remember the name of the place.
apart from that, no major plan really. the day before the concert, per told me they had a little live performance on a radio station in
paris, but couldn't tell me more about it (the name of the station for instance), except that the conditions "were not very professional".
after everything was finished that night, everyone cleaned up and had a last drink before leaving.
eggstone had actually come to paris in a minivan (a classy one, not one of these old greenish
volkswagen flower power vans!) instead of flying, because they couldn't find a flight!
they left the day after, so that means they must have arrived to malmö on
thursday. i saw them leaving, maurits driving because he was the only sober one that night.
what reasonable boys! we waved at them and they disappeared into the warm night, heading back to their hotel
(god knows where...).

i saw eggstone in concert in paris for the first time yesterday night and it was great.
eggstone played after many bands from the tricatel record label. the party was fun and nice, with many
styles of music. eggstone's performance was astonishing. what a voice! what an emotion.
crazy rythms made my brain so free.

the adventures of eggstone in france - part two:
i just recieved more information from greg about their activities in france and the new songs recorded there:
"about one month ago, i went to tricatel studios and eggstone were there recording a couple of songs (off their next
lp) which are being produced by burgalat, and i didn't see them play the music (they had just finished when
i arrived) but listened to the final result of one of the songs (untitled as yet, there were no vocals on it,
i think they were going to tape the vocals once back in malmö). let me tell you: the song was GRRRREAT!
i only listened to it on that one evening and i still remember it!
it's a very uptempo melody, syncopated & with a great beat. the instruments feature a mandoline (or a banjo) and a very strange instrument called
theremin, that per told me is an invention by a russian guy back in the 20's.
if you've never heard one, the sound is as of a siren, or a musical saw.
you play it by waving your hands in front of two antennas (one controlling the pitch and the other one the volume).
i also know that they borrowed it from the band air. the sound of this instrument only comes at the end of the song and it's great.
another thing i remember though is that burgalat told me he had been working on this one song for four days, and that he wanted it to be their biggest hit, with the catchiest, most joyful melody ever!
(i guess all producers say that, but anyway...)
one funny thing: they were just in the process of writing the lyrics for it, and they have a strange way to proceed : the laptop computer was on, on a table, and whenever they felt like it,
per or maurits or patrik would pop in and write words, correct others, creating the lyrics in a very cool and unstressful way.
from what i can remember, the song dealt with vegetables or something, but
i must confess that i did'nt pay much attention to it, i was really listening to the music instead.
anyway, after that they went back to the studios for some more work (while
i was there, as bertrand was working on the machines, the threesome was simply slouching on the couch waiting for things to happen).
it was their last day of work in paris before they went back to sweden."

french lp out now!
the eggstone “french” album has just been released (on may 17th to be precise) and it's fantasticabulous!
the title is "ca chauffe en suède !" (which roughly means “it's heating up in
sweden !”). the tracklisting goes as follows:
waiting for the bell
still all stands still
against the sun
if you say
summer and looking for a job
see the good things
good morning
she's perfect
marabous
wrong heaven
beach boy
shooting time
penguin
sun king
the dog
birds in cages
brass
taramasalata
mizu
note: there is a hidden track on this album;
first it's a dialogue excerpt from a swedish film, a man and a woman talking together, and
i can't figure out what they're saying. i just understand that the woman says something, the man makes her repeat and
she repeats. then, also from a film, we can hear kids talking, and one of the boys mentions the name
pippi, so i guess i've figured out which film it's from. and it ends with a very cute (but silly, of course) kiddie song,
probably from the pippi soundtrack, and you can hear the
crackles of the vinyl record it's been taped from. what a finale !
by the way, the song 'brass' is included on the tricatel compilation 'au coeur de
tricatel', released in march 1999.
eggstone will be in paris on the 1st of june for a tricatel special concert, along with other artists
on the label.
thank you greg for this information!

eggstone + lina ekdahl = sant!
"the internet provides totally new possibilities for artistic creativeness.
the musicians and poets that participate in the mp6 project have never met before.
the poets have recorded their poems onto the musicians answering machines, thereafter the voices have been transferred to a computer and been mixed with the instrumental backing.
finally, the files have been sent via e-mail to smålandsposten. the geographical boundaries are nowadays insignificant, we can meet anyway."
download the lina ekdahl/eggstone song at smålandsposten's web site. the song is entitled
'säger nej' and it's available in both real audio and mp3 format.
thank you mum for this piece of information.

la couronne closes down!
this decision caused a great deal of fuss among entertainment people, musicians and
party addicts in malmö. the reason behind the closedown might be because of economic difficultness amongst the staff.
some restaurant keepers from stockholm has shown interest in opening the popular restaurant/bar again, and
la couronne will probably open in a month or two...
funeral feast at la couronne - low profitability and critic from the authorities death blow for the restaurant.
"... a new supergroup has formed in the creative surroundings of tambourine
studios, the barbershop quintet the humble hitlers, consisting of per sunding and
patrik bartosch from eggstone, the lindgård brothers from the mopeds and
magnus dveningsson from the cardigans. patrik straightens out what the name is all about:
"the name expresses what harmonizing is all about; you've got to have
nazi-like dicipline over your own voice, but be humble and listen to the others at the same time." [source:
nöjesguiden, malmö]
per sunding is a member of the danish-swedish collective tremolo beer gut.
also in the collective are members from the band psyched up janis. they play some kind of instrumental music.
i haven't heard it myself, so i don't really know what i'm talking about (as usual...). [source:

eggstone recorded three songs with bertrand burgalat in paris during their trip to
france about a month ago. they will return and finish the tracks during a week in
mid-april. burgalat's record label, tricatel, will also release an eggstone retrospective, in the same vein as 'spanish slalom', but with another selection of songs.
the exact release date is not set yet, but it will probably be released around
mid-april.
eggstone, as previously reported, are still in the studio occasionally recording
songs for a new album. they have put up a deadline though - which is good news - and will finish the album in
april and/or may. according to the band, the album should be out by late summer (if we're really lucky,
god is on our side and the weather is good).
990221
there hasn't been much going on during the last months; eggstone has been in the studio rehearsing and recording songs for their fourth album, but with two notable exceptions:
the concert in france and a collaboration with the legendary bertrand
burgalat. bertrand, who has worked with einsturzende neubauten, kahimi karie,
louis philippe and count inidigo amongst others, teamed up with eggstone during their trip to
france to record some songs. if the outcome is good, maybe we'll be blessed with a single or an
ep... or maybe even a children's colouring book (!) ...
this was mentioned on swedish music tv program 'musikbyrån' and also on the
vibrafon site.
here's some info on the festival which took place in paris, sent to me by a nice person namned
jo. it's in french, so you'd better go and pick up that dictionary:
juan carmona (mardi 26)."

i've just recieved information that eggstone will do a concert in paris,
france on january 23. this is all i know at the moment, but as soon as i
know more, further information will be put on this page.
eggstone will probably also do a concert on iceland, in early february.
no date is set yet. more info on both these concerts later.
981102
the new eggstone single and album has been delayed because of the underground
technology merge. i'll put the new release dates here as soon as i hear
about them.
980928
just read this on the vibrafon site (hopefully they'll forgive me for stealing their stuff...):
"eggstone are recording!
at least that's what we're told. when we dropped by to visit, they were all out.
so we aren't really sure what they're up to. but rumour has it that at least two of the band members have been spotted near the studio at the same time.
let's keep the faith alive, then."
980908
"while tore johansson is in america, the eggstone's sneak into the country hell studio to put down some tracks for their fourth album.
expect a single later this year."
980906
the malmö ff tribute album 'mama take me home to malmo', with the new eggstone track 'it's the clothes that
make the man',
is out...
980904
the new eggstone single is out november 2. finally!
the 'spanish slalom' compilation lp/cd is now available in the vibrashop, at the official
vibrafon site...
980729
this is just a rumor, but when i listened to the radio a few days ago, i
heard something about eggstone, the cardigans and ray wonder going to iceland for a couple of shows
there. might be true, or not...
980718
elena cabrera in spain (thank you!), sent this report to me:
"the two eggstone concerts in madrid were really nice. one was 12 july in
getafe (a village near madrid) and the other one was for radio (rne3) and television
(la 2) that was broadcast on tuesday 14 july. the band was really happy with the
getafe concert because the place was very nice, but there wasn't too many people though.
the gig for tv was also great. they are very unknown in spain but i hope now, with the
siesta compilation, that they will be well-known."
980712
a new eggstone compilation album has been released by the spanish label
siesta. the album, entitled 'spanish slalom', is available in two formats: good old white vinyl and
compact disc. take a look at the discography page for a picture of the album cover.
the songs are:
she's perfect, if you say and wrong heaven from 'in dan diego', the dog,
desdemona and water from 'somersault', april and may, birds in cages and
taramasalata from 'vive la différence!', my trumpets from the 'point loma'
ep, diesel smoke from the 'lemon grove' ep, brass from the 'summer and looking for a job'
single, penguin from the 'april and may' ep and dreamer, the b side of the
'birds in cages' single.
the cd version has the following additional tracks:
summer and looking for a job, a better day, good morning, still all stands still,
and supermeaningfectlyless.
and as a result of these modern times, there's a video/cd-rom track of the
never been a better day video too! fabulous. get both formats and be a true
eggstone fan!
980702
the brand new, fantastic vibrafon site is open! order eggstone cd's! read about
eggstone! look at eggstone! it's all there! the address: www.vibrafon.se.
also on the new site is a clip of 'it's the clothes that make the man',
the even more brand, spanking new track taken from the forthcoming
tribute album 'mama take me home to malmö', to be released in august.
and last, but not least, a concert update: the only eggstone show this summer will take place at a
festival in madrid, spain on july 11.
980618
there will be no festival appearances at all this summer, except for two gigs in
dpain, the exact dates are not confirmed yet. more info coming up as
soon as possible.
eggstone has been in their new rehearsal space since the end of march this year, and will enter
tambourine studios in june to start recording their new album. they'll continue the recordings in
august-september, after a summer break in july.
the new album will hopefully be released around christmas this year.
