scraping the bottom of the news barrel:
old coot terry ericsson recently compiled a two cd set of
classic, swedish pop called 'svensk indie 1988-2006: en kärlekshistoria'. it was
put out by nons records a few
months ago and features 'wrong heaven'. here's an extract from the liner notes:
"vad har ['wrong heaven'] betytt för er?
när patrik vaknade upp, bakfull och nyrånad i ett badkar på ett hotell på ett
regnigt kallt mallorca av att han hörde 'wrong heaven' på radion förstod han att
vi var på rätt väg. det är en himla bra låt och är en av hörnstenarna i vår
katalog. den släpptes som singel i spanien och var en av våra första
utlandsreleaser."
(by the way, it's been more than 10 years since 'vive la
différence!'...)
latest news & rumours for december 2006...
perhaps not new, but still worthy of attention: a recording
of eggstone performing three songs backstage at the 1994 hultsfred festival can
be downloaded for free over at
www.dimeadozen.org. heaps of thanks to willer for sharing. please note that
you need to be a member of said web site, but sign up is of course free as well.

eggstone performing a cover of the clash's 'hateful' can be
seen on a (sort of) new dvd called
'roots rock rebel'. it was shot during the joe strummer tribute
concert at debaser, stockholm back in february 2003.
and, yes, per, patrik and maurits ARE featured in the
movie
'om gud vill' ('god willing'), as members of the band the
monoliths. there's a soundtrack ep out, including the song
'itämaista rakkautta' ('oriental love'), featuring per on bass,
patrik on accordion and organ, and maurits on drums. recorded at
tambourine studios in malmö, of course. |

q: is the band still alive?
a: yes.

a: don't know.
q: does this 'new album' really exist? and will it actually
be released some day? honestly?
a: yes.

latest news & rumours for april 2006...
how about some really old news? maurits and patrik (on
accordion) from eggstone could be seen performing a song with nina persson
during the 'guldbaggen' awards back in january 2006 on swedish television. they
appeared as juli & the monoliths and the song was called 'itämaista rakkautta',
a track from the new movie 'om gud vill', where nina is playing the female lead.
i guess eggstone is featured as the backing band in the movie as well but i
haven't seen it (yet).

w00t! we're back again, at yet ANOTHER location. the old site
went down and haven't been seen or heard of since (stay away from perfect free
web hosting, folks!). a good idea would be to bookmark the original url
(http://hem.passagen.se/lito4549) just in case this one would cease to exist as
well. i suppose a lot of links aren't working the way they should at the moment,
but bear with me.

eggstone are
currently recording at tambourine studios, as backing band to swedish
singer
staffan hellstrand. his new album is set for release in
february/march next year.
here's an
amusing (?) quote from the cardigans' nina persson in a recent
interview:
"eggstone drive us mad.
it’s been seven years since they made a record and they keep saying they
will, but i’m sure it's bulls**t. we’d love them to make it, or at least
be honest and say they’ve quit!"

news & rumours for april 2005 (part two)...
the attentive
cineast will hear an unfinished eggstone demo being played in the
background during the 'café scene' in the movie 'sandor/slash/ida',
currently showing at cinemas across sweden. yet another reason to go and
see this, except for the fact that it's a cool film and eggstone
provided the soundtrack.
and what about
the new eggstone album? well, per is still on paternity leave, returning
in a month or so and, according to maurits, there will probably not be
any eggstone work until this autumn.

feature on eggstone (14 pages, in swedish) - complete with two lenghty
interviews with per & maurits, pictures and reviews of their albums - in
issue #9 of fozzie. comes highly recommended and can be bought by

some hot eggstone news
- straight from my reliable sources from all over the world (but mainly from the
malmö area):
per is still busy taking care of family business and raising his little son, as
well as making the occasional visit as a producer at tambourine studios. the new
album by swedish band
the ark (queen for the 00's indie audience), entitled 'state of the ark'
and released in december 2004, was produced by per and has recieved great
reviews.
patrik is working as a volunteer somewhere in africa at the moment, but before
he left he worked on the music for a new movie currently showing in sweden,
called 'sandor/slash/ida'. check out the official web site

... and i have absolutely no idea what maurits might be up to, but i'm sure he's
swell.
so, sadly no news of a new eggstone album yet, though.

during the following weeks, as i'm adding new stuff regulary. and by the way,
the guestbook had to be removed since people with too much time on their hands
kept harassing it and filled it with pointless messages in the vein of 'wow!

rumours for may 2004...
per has been
busy producing the new album by danish group
swan lee. should be out in the stores by now.
per is also
becoming a father this month. wish him good luck with the diapers!
eggstone have
written three songs for american singer angela mccluskey's debut album,
to be released in the states in june. a european release is expected
this autumn. you can hear some songs as well as watch the EPK for the
album
here.
according to
maurits (that's the nice bloke bashing the drums), the band is working
more and more on new eggstone material and hope to have something out
sometime this year. no word on what record label as of yet though.
