OmniEdgeSharpen
A small photoshop action
which sharpens the edges rather than the whole pic, resulting in less noise:

Feel free to modify as you please, for example changing the unsharp mask settings.

How to install the action:
Download OmniEdgeSharpen.atn and place in "..Photoshop CS\Presets\Photoshop Actions" or corresponding folder.
start photoshop, and open the actions window.
If the action is not visible in list, do this:
click on the small arrow
at top right corner of actions window.
choose "load actions"
choose "OmniEdgesharpen"
To play the action:
Open the picture you want
to sharpen.
Click on "Play selection".
To modify the action:
1) doubleclick on the action name to reveal the tree
2) doubleclick 'unsharp mask'
3) choose your new settings
4) 'ok'
5) doubleklick to perhaps rename the action to represent the new setting?
