Problem: Getting error "Could not write to file",

when trying to save a form on a network after having changed it.
Date: 20 July, 2005
Versions: Paradox 9 -
Environment: Novell Netware 6.5
More symptoms:
The original file is deleted from the network drive.

Starting around Netware 6, Novell switched from having opportunistic locking OFF by default to having it ON by default. This is bad for Paradox; it needs to be off.
How to do this:

Suggestion verified by: SPP Admin
Just as an update, setting Op-Locks on the server, to OFF has solved the problems.

In case anyone googles this thread in the future, the full command to use at the Netware 6.5 server prompt is
SET LEVEL 2 OPLOCKS ENABLED=OFF

My comments:
There have been a handful of reports regarding this error on different versions of Windows servers, Win2000, WinXp and maybe also WinNT. Changing OPLOCKS has not been suggested as a solution for those servers, so I haven't seen this verified for Windows servers.
