171 Cannot write to Engine configuration file.

Problem: Getting error "Cannot write to Engine configuration file."

When trying to save changes made to the aliases in AliasManager.
Versions: P7 W95/NT and later.

Probable cause 1:
You have a lot of ODBC datasources in combination with BDE Administrator setting Auto OBDC = TRUE.
Solution:
In BDE Adminsitrator, delete the aliases created by the Auto ODBC=TRUE setting.
Recommendation:
When Auto ODBC=TRUE, use BDE Administrator to edit aliases.

48k is the max size for idapi.cfg. I have a .cfg file with 50 aliases in it and it is only 28k. If you have a lot, this will decrease load time of applications while the Bde tries to read and process the config file.
