LIVING WITH STARGARDTS DISEASE
Jill's Story
I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with Stargardts about five years
ago. It's been an up and down roller coaster ride since then, but I
can't say that it wouldn't have been even without Stargardts. Life is
just that way, isn't it?
My visual acuity is still quite good at this point. I'm able to drive
during the day ("watch out for that treeeeeeeee!") and read fine print.
The large newspaper headlines really trip me up though (whether I'm
reading the news or fallng down in the driveway!). I have been involved
with the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas for the past four
years. I go twice a year for check-ups and get to hear the latest on the
progress that is being made in this area. I feel quite certain that
something will happen in the near future to help us out.
I have two beautiful daughters and a dear husband who is so supportive.
But most importantly I have my faith in my Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ. He is teaching me to "walk by faith and not by sight" on a daily
basis. I have to say that as rotten as Stargardts is, I am learning to
lean on God rather than upon myself. And if Stargardts is what it took
to get me to that place of dependence on Christ, then so be it. I'd
rather be blind with Him than have perfect vision but miss seeing Him
completely. After all, this life is only temporary and one of these
days, I'll see Him revealed in all His glory and majesty! Won't that be
an incredible day!?
May God bless you as you seek comfort and healing!
