I GOT WOOD

Hello Guys,
Here are the details on the 1967 Chevelle SS 427 Convertible in bright blue or LeManns blue This is a copy of my dream car displayed on the showroom floor at De Anza Chevrolet on my 16th birthday....it had been special ordered by a Marine that didn't complete the transaction...hence the only reason the dealership had it offered in bright blue and a 427 and not the typical 396 in marina blue.
We know these transactions today as central office purchase orders or "COPO" cars. Obviously this car seen on my 16th birthday made an idelable impression.I saved $$for most of the year only to find I was to late to special order...So I continued to look for a resale car...never seeing another 427 for over 30 years!!! I'll get to the expanation later.
If you came of age in the 60's like I did you already know the incredable legend that "427" had in NHRA, Daytona, LeManns, and most of all cruising the boulavard bragging rights. Arguably a 427 either Ford or Chevy have unique characturistics that allow for making RPM's quicker with a wider power band and last but not least way more horsepower than advertised.Yes of course there is the 454 and 502 and I've had em all over the years...yet it is the charateristics and cache' of the 427 that take me back to the day.
After a 30 year unsuccessful quest I turned to a professional Chevelle restoration expert...and found the answer as to why I could'nt find a real one...his answer; there were something like 7 known to exist as 427 convertibles!! The last known sale for a numbers matching conv. was 10 years ago at a Pebble Beach auction for a reported $170,000. I'm a purist at heart, however, I drive my cars, and muscle cars especialy were meant to be driven. For one thing at $170,000 it would be sacriligious to drive it like it was supposed to be and for another with that kinda money in my world I could have 3 cars hence more fun per $
Again being a purist I felt it was time to build my own but not from a true SS car as I felt this too would be sacriligious. so in 1997 I started with a 1967 Chevelle Malibu 283 powerglide Convertible that came to California when it was one year old. I purchased it from a man in Yucca Valley Ca.
Next comes the complete nut and bolt rebuild.

Virtually a brand new car that will only increase in value, however not a numbers matching car. With Hemi Cuda convertables in the MultiMillions and the clones in the $100,000 plus stratisphere with 1970 Chevelle LS6 chevelle convertables over a Million $$ numbers cars are destined to museums only...unlike the classics our fathers collected as rolling sculpture it is my belief Muscle Cars were meant to be driven...there are approximately 7 1967 SS 427 Chevelle Convertables known to exist...therefore if you want to drive it and drive it RIGHT NOW this is it.
...I have a therory , the buyers at Barrett-Jackson pay the money they do because they have already been the frame off restoration route like I have only to find they were double over budget and it took 10 times longer than planned...like I say this car took 10 years to build at a price much higher than I am asking!!!
Starting life as a completely RUST FREE California car NO RUST repair EVER. Being a purist and only wanting the 427 version I did not want to alter a true SS 396 Convertible. This Car started life in Detroit as a 1967 Chevelle Malibu 283 auto, convertible and came to California when it was one year old. 10 years ago I bought it from a gentleman in Yucca Valley with one repaint.
Completly disassembled the entire car. sent the frame and suspention parts out for powdercoating. Built the chassis with Hotchkiss and Global west protouring system antisway bars front and rear. using tubular A-arms & traction bars 3 way adjustable shocks for firm or soft ride control Polyurithane bushings, dropped spindles and 4 wheel disc brakes. new big block springs front and rear. Stainless steel braided brake and gas lines.New alumanized gas tank. Jet hot coated headers, same with 2 1/2 inch exhaust and turbo mufflers with chrome pipes from muffler back. Powder coated bumper brackets and core support for the new Matson Radiator high effency fan. Sound and heat proofed bottom floorpan and dynamated top of floorpan. New 12 bolt differential all new components w/308 gears for highway cruising.

The New Old Stock 1969 Corvette L89 427 w/ Aluminum Heads from the factory! The Engine is a collector piece in and of its self arguably worth as much as $20,000 to a Corvette purist. The miles you see on the odometer are all the miles this engine has had from new!
Searching out the right engine alone has taken decades to find. See the dyno results and you will understand they were underrated from the factory by 100 HP @ 435 4 speed of course.
The firewall and engine compartment was smoothed and finished in a complentary engine color with hidden wires. New power booster with polished and finned reservour, zoops serpintine system w/140 amp alt.vintage heat and air cond. SS engine turned dash with vintage racing Stewart Warner guages 160 MPH 8000 RPM tach. working clock, Hidden AM/FM/XM 10 Pack CD with Jukebox, Power Amp killer sound system.
Leather upholstery with original stitch patern SS center consule with a JOY STICK for goin thru the gears and listnin to the legendary 427 sound. New german stay fast cloth top with custom glass back window... numbers matching cars were plastic and vinyl 4 speed convertibles did not come w air conditioning.
The body was taken down to bare metal and sprayed with etching primer, block sanded to lazor straight perfection then PPG base coat clear coat to match Lemanns Blue Just like the first one I had seen on my 16th birthday that was special ordered in a brighter blue than the offered marina blue.

We took our Chevelle on a trip to Bonneville Salt Flats - Enjoy the images...
