World Cup Final 2005
The World Cup Final ends the total world cup of year 2005 in the sport modern pentathlon. The 32 best men and 32 best women that have qualified from the world cup compete in the competition. The competitions before the final has been in Mexico, Hungary, Germany and Greece.

The competition will be in Uppsala, Sweden, at 20-21 August, 2005 (see program). Uppsala has arranged several successful competitions before, e.g. European Championships 1998 and Youth-A World Championships 2001.

Modern pentathlon
The sport modern pentathlon consist of five disciplines; shooting, fencing, swimming, riding and running. In each discipline the competitors get points. The points are added together and the person with the highest total score wins. Se description for more information.

Modern pentathlon was introduced by the president Pierre de Coubertin of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) year 1919 and has been an olympic sport since the olympics in Stockholm 1912. It is said that he got the idea from a liaison officer who had to deliver a message by horse. The horse was brought down in enemy territory and he had to defend himself with his pistol and sword. He swam across a river and finally delivered the message on foot.
