David Östlund has taught intellectual history since 1990, mainly at Stockholm University. Since 2009 he has been teaching at Södertörn University, Stockholm. In 2004 he was a visiting lecturer at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has now returned there as a visiting assistant professor, and will stay December 2010 through June 2011. His research has mainly dealt with the interplay between ideas of social reform on the one hand, and on the other hand ideas of working life and business efficiency. His doctoral dissertation (2003) will be followed by a study called "Radicals of Compromise" (also in Swedish). He has discussed theoretical problems within intellectual history in several texts, and the core of his position is presented in a "manifesto" comprising 100 theses in Lychnos, 1998. Since the end of September 2008 David is also freelancing in the business of knowledge, under the name of Firma Mente, www.firmamente.se (david@firmamente.se), which mainly gives independent courses at university level in intellectual history.
