Project - Stage 1
Get the thing rolling and through registration in Sweden

The first part of this great trip is now finished! It all started from the '71 XLH  I bought in the States in 1997. Due to lack of necessary funds the whole story was put on ice for a couple of years. I finally got my ass out of the waggon when I was on the ferry between Sweden and Finland at the same time as 130 Harley riders going to the 25th Super rally in Finland in 2000! When these guys all started their hogs at the same time I told my girlfriend - Now I'll get my Harley running! This was in August 2000.

It took me about 18 months to get the bike together and working. On
April 4th 2002 - The bike passed registration!

Pictures of the build-up:

The engine. It's a 1971 XLH engine with the cylinders newly bored to .060 (which means 911 cc)

The rolling chassis. The front end is from an XLCR. At the wheel has to go someday!

So I took the tops off again. I changed the oil pump gaskets and checked the timing before assembly.

Frame painted (rattlecan) and the chassis put back together

The bike put together, the forwards not working yet though.

Instead of buying a H-D generator I chose a more difficult way... Click here to see more details.

I bought a generator of an old Suzuki GSX750R and had a shop machine a distance so the generator would fit the engine.

This is the generator from the regulator end. I cut off the original tabs (the cut marked with black lines in the pic)

It took me probably about 15 hours to get it to fit there but it looks good, was cheaper than a H-D gen. and regulator and it will hopefully work better than the H-D setup

A picture of the shift-side forward control. The forwards are an Italian brand, Tarossi.

The forward-mount which I made myself. It's not pretty but it works!

The brake-side forward control was the next little project

Here she is in version 1, with the, hopefully, legal pipes/mufflers!

As most ironheaders I got rid of the Bendix/Zenith and installed a CV instead

I converted it to pull-only. A little problem with the clearance wire/petcock

The CV-carb is off a '96 Heritage

I mounted a brace made of stainless steel sheat metal from the back of the air cleaner.

You can see the brace here but since it is in line w/ the rear intake pushrod cover it almost disappears!

Version 2: The brake-side forward control is now done (030517)

I also put a dragbar handlebar on her and got rid of the springs under the seat.

The look was totally altered and now she's really low and sleek!

If you have any Q:s about the generator setup or anything else, don't hesitate to mail me.
