Studebaker for 1948
1948 Studebaker Commander Regal DeLuxe 2 door convertible
The upward trend from 1947 continued in 1948, with
over $19 million in earnings
on calender year output. This led to a Studebaker record in
produced cars.
Studebakers were sparcely changed in '48 mostly due to the large make over
in '47. A winged hood medallion were added on Champions too and provided
instant
identification though. Commanders got a horizontal chrome upper
molding instead of body
colored on front edge of hood. Another more
significant change were a price increase of around $200 all over the lineup.
Again both
Commanders and Champions were offered as two- and four-door
sedans,
(4-doors had suicide back doors) 3 passenger coupe, 5 passenger
coupe and the convertible coupe.
Commanders also offered the longer
Landcruiser. All were still available in base DeLuxe
trim or in the optional
Regal DeLuxe trim except for the convertible which was only offered
in
Regal DeLuxe trim. Champions carried a 169.6 cui inline six producing
80 hp and Commanders had the 226.2 cui inline six with 94 hp.
A total of 99.282 Champions and 85.711 Commanders were produced
during the model year.
