In December of 1963, new president Byers Burlingame announced the closure of Studebaker's
historic South Bend plant after failed last-ditch efforts to obtain financing for future models.
Operations were consolidated at the Hamilton, Ontario (Canada), assembly plant, where
management hoped to return profitability on 20.000 cars a year.
All the produced cars were planned to be compacts.
