The first years of the second century. This was when the famous "Loewy coupe" was introduced.


1953 Studebaker Commander Starliner 2 door hardtop coupe

Studebaker updated its look in high style for the first year of the second century. Despite the
Loewy nickname the basic design was the work of Bob Bourke of Raymond Loewy Studio.
No '53 automobile deserved the Fashion Academy Award more than Studebaker. As
Motor World reported, Studebaker "made every other American car look ten years older".
