To help explain the solution to this maze, we have labeled the squares in the above diagram so that each square is designated.
In order to solve this maze you have to lure the Minotaur into what we term a "cup", a square that's only open on one side. First you get him into the cup at the square C4. Giving Theseus's moves in upper case, we will show the direction of each move; frequently the Minotaur (and occasionally Theseus) does not move and no symbol is drawn. We start:
Nn-Nnw-Eww-Eww-Eww-Sww-Sww-Sws.
The Minotaur is now at D4 and Theseus is directly below him at D5.
Ww-S-S-S-S-Ees-Ese-Ess-N.
Theseus is now at F8, the Minotaur is at E8, and the Minotaur is trapped behind him the wall that separates him and Theseus.
The next trap is the cup that's right next to the exit. You may not have though of that as a trap, since it's impossible to leave the labyrinth is the Minotaur is sitting in that cup. But that trap lets you lead the Minotaur into subsequent traps.
Nn-Nn-Nn-Nn-E-E-Nne-Nne-Nee.
Theseus is now at H2 and the Minotaur at H3.
Ee-Ee-Ee-N-Ee-Ee-Ee-Een.
Theseus is now at N1 and the Minotaur is at N2, about to be trapped in the cup and L2 and M2.
Ww-Ww-W-S-W-W-W-S-S-S-S-S-S-S -E-E-E-E-Ee-Ees-Wws.
The Minotaur is now at M4 and Theseus is at M9. At this point Theseus waits out a turn letting the Minotaur make two more moves to the South.
ss-Wss-N.
Theseus is now at L8 and the Minotaur at M8.
Nn-Nn-W-W-W-W-Nn-Nnw-Nww-Nww -NNw-Nwn.
Theseus is now at H1 and the Minotaur at H2.
Ww-W-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-E.
Here comes another mad dash. Theseus must get past the wall between columns L and M before the Minotaur can catch him.
Ees-Ees-Ese-Ee-Ees-Ess-N.
Theseus is now at M8, and the Minotaur is at L8 and trapped behind the wall, and Theseus now has an easy stroll to the exit.
Nn-Nn-Nn-N-N-E-N-E.
