I got this E-mail from Ken, this bike has had quite a rough life! Enjoy!

Here is some background and info on my RD

RD400 side viewIt's an RD 400 G model, Canadian version of the F Daytona model. Its tag reads production in Jan of 1980. Believe it or not, the bike had been abandoned on the military base I was stationed at the time, and had stood/fallen over the eight years I was there.

Enduring the climate changes that must be quite similar to weather in your part of the world. I finally got tired of seeing it abused and attempted to track down the owner, finally finding him at the other end of the country and he had no interest in it so I had the license switched to my name. She was in pretty rough shape, only 8000 kms on it but sitting through the winters had done no good. Water had gotten down into the cylinders and crank, rusting them badly. The crank had to be cleaned and rebuilt, and the cylinder walls were pitted so had it bored out. Stripped the bike to the frame, placed all the parts in boxes and baggies and then was posted, and it was another three years before I started putting an effort into getting it on the road or track.

On the track

I had alwas enjoyed the thought of Racing and thought this would be an cost effective way to get on to the track and have fun, emphasis on fun. I tried to stick to the formula RD rules although I strayed abit by bracing the frame but I drilled small holes in the center of the braces and built sidecovers that fit in place so if any one asks I just say that their side cover mounts. Racing is small down here and their just happy to see a new face so doubt if anyone will say anything. I call myself the fear eliminator, everyone has that fear of coming in last,  I eliminate that fear by taking that position :) Just out to have fun, stay on the track and not hurt anyone.

Anyway the bike is an RD 400 G 1981

Overall a fun project!

RD400 front view Note the Canadian conversion for stand wheels (hockey pucks). This was actually due to the wife cutting of financial aid to the project :)

Honda CB900 10 speed...

Honda CB900 Custom

The other pic just for interest sake is my 81 Honda CB 900 Custom. Kinda unique, if you look at the gear shift you can see two levers One is for normal shifting one to five but the other lever is for a high low range which in principle gives you ten gears to choose from. My friend did the paint for this one as well.
