Just north of Inverness, the Highland capital, in the village Muir of Ord you find the Glen Ord distillery. You might have heard of this malt as Glenordie, Muir of Ord or simply Ord. Glen Ord is today the only remaining distillery in an area where it used to be almost a dozen of them, using all barley that was produced in the area for whisky. Nowadays Glen Ord supplies many distilleries with malted barley from it´s large malting drums. In 1958 Glen Ord started an eight-year- experiment to compare the difference between coal, oil and steamheated stills, resulting Glen Ord now having only steam heated stills.
