At a 
historical 
site just east 
of Port Ellen is the
 home of the Lagavulin
distillery, guarded by the 
old ruins of Dunyveg castle. 
This area has been the scene 
of lots of illicit distilling 
in the past, since Islay was 
the only place in Scotland 
where no Excise officer
operated from 1707 to 
1823.Lagavulin is 
the heart of the
White Horse 
blend.
