Quintarian Web Browser

For Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (ver. 2.6)

With support for Nexus button!

These pages have not been updated, but you are free to use the files and images if you want.

All Bujold fans have surely waited for this, a reskinned version of Mozilla Firefox with a "Chalion" look.

Notice:You should be able to use this theme on all platforms (operating systems).

Notice that there is a Nexus navigation button in the main toolbar of the browser.

This theme should work with Mozilla Firefox 2.5.

If you have an earlier version of Mozilla Firefox, go to the instructions for Mozilla Firefox 1.5, or upgrade to Mozilla Firefox 2.0.


 Instructions Mozilla Firefox 2.0:

  1. If you do not already have Mozilla Firefox, go to www.mozilla.com and download and install Mozilla Firefox 2.0.
  2. Start Mozilla Firefox 2.0.
  3. In the menu, click "Tools" - "Options..." and the Options dialog will open, click the "Security" tab and and check:
    • That the option "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons" is unchecked (Image).
  4. In the menu, click "Tools" - "Options..." and the Options dialog will open, click the "Content" tab and and check:
    • That the option "Enable JavaScript" is checked (Image).
  5. This step only works in Mozilla Firefox 2.0: Click on this link to install the "Quintarian Web Browser 2.6" theme in your Mozilla Firefox 2.0.
  6. The "Software Installation" dialog will open, click "Install Now" to install the "Quintarian Web Browser" theme (Image).
  7. The "Add-Ons" dialog, the tab "Installation", will open with the message "Quintarian Web Browser 2.6 - Install completed successfully". Click "Restart Firefox" (Image).
  8. Mozilla Firefox 2.0 will shut down and start again.
  9. In the menu, click "Tools" - "Add-ons..." and the Add-ons dialog will open, click the "Themes" tab, and then click on "Quintarian Web Browser 2.6" to highlight it.
  10. The "Use Theme" button will appear, click on it to use the Quintarian theme (image).
  11. The message "Restart Firefox to use" will appear. Close the Add-ons dialog, shut down Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and then start it again.
  12. Your Mozilla Firefox 2.0 should now have the "Quintarian Web Browser" look.
  13. In the menu, click "Tools" - "Options..." and the Options dialog will open, click the "Security" tab and enable (check) the option "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons".
 Nexus button: To install a Nexus button in the main toolbar, do like this:
  1. Start Mozilla Firefox 2.0. (In Linux you need to be logged in as root)
  2. Download the file "nexus_q5_mzff2.0.xpi" to a temporary folder.
  3. This step only works in Mozilla Firefox 2.0: In the menu click "File" - "Open File...", navigate to the temporary folder, and open the file "nexus_q5_mzff2.0.xpi".
  4. The "Software installation" dialog opens, click the "Install Now" button (image).
  5. The "Add-ons" dialog opens, you can see "Nexus Button (q5br) 2.0" and the message "Restart to complete the installation". Click "Restart Firefox" (image).
  6. When Firefox starts up again, the Nexus button should appear in the main toolbar.
  7. If the Nexus button isn't shown, or if you have more than one:
    • In the menu, click "View" - "Toolbars" - "Customize", and the "Customize Toolbar" dialog opens (image).
    • Drag the Nexus button from the main toolbar to the "Customize Toolbar" dialog window, or vice versa, and then click the "Done" button.
 Windows only (?):
  1. If you want to change the Mozilla Firefox icon to a Quintarian-inspired one, do like this:
  2. Download the file mz1q5.zip and "unzip" it to a temporary folder. There should be 2 files, you will be using only one of them:
    • "q5br.ico", a Quintarian Web Browser icon (image)
  3. Move the file "q5br.ico" from the temporary folder to the Mozilla Firefox program folder, usually "C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox\".
  4. Now you can change the Mozilla icons in the Start menu and on the desktop to "q5br.ico".
