All Bujold fans have surely waited for this, a reskinned version of Netscape 7 with a "Vorkosigan" look.

Notice: This page has two versions of an installable Vorkosigan theme:

You should be able to use it on all platforms (operating systems).

Notice that there is a Nexus navigation button in the main toolbar of the browser.
Another screenshot with a more minimal installation of Netscape 7, with no mail and newsgroups, no addressbook, no instant messenger, and no Nexus button. 630x440 or 415x290 png image.

This theme has been constructed and tested with Netscape 7.1 and 7.2.

If you have Netscape 7.0 or earlier, you are recommended to upgrade to Netscape 7.2 or newer.

Notice also that AIM (the Instant Messenger component) has not been tested with the new theme, so there is a risk that AIM will look a little strange.

 Instructions Netscape 7.1 and 7.2:

  1. If you do not already have Netscape 7, go to home.netscape.com and download and install Netscape 7.
  2. Start Netscape 7
  3. In the menu, click "Edit" - "Preferences..." and check that you have JavaScript (image) and software installation (image) enabled.
  4. This step only works in Netscape 7:
    • For Netscape 7.1:
      Click on this link to install the "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.6 (Ns7.1)" skin in your Netscape 7.1.
    • For Netscape 7.2:
      Click on this link to install the "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 (Ns7.2)" skin in your Netscape 7.2.
  5. In the menu, click "View" - "Apply Theme" - "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.6 (Ns7.1)" or "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 (Ns7.2)" and a dialog box will open with the message "Theme changes will take effect when you restart Netscape 7".
  6. Click "OK", close Netscape 7 and then start it again.
  7. Your Netscape 7 should now have the "Vorkosigan ComConsole" look.
 Nexus button: To install support for a Nexus button in the main toolbar, do like this:
  1. Start Netscape 7 (In Linux you need to be logged in as root)
  2. This step only works in Netscape 7:
    • Netscape 7.1:
      • Download the file "nexus_ns7.1.xpi" to a temporary folder.
      • In the menu click "File" - "Open File...", navigate to the temporary folder, and open the file "nexus_ns7.1.xpi" to install Nexus button support in your Netscape 7.1.
        This supports the Nexus Button in both Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.6 and Quintarian Web Browser 2.02 for Netscape 7.1.
    • Netscape 7.2:
      • Download the file "nexus_ns7.2.xpi" to a temporary folder.
      • In the menu click "File" - "Open File...", navigate to the temporary folder, and open the file "nexus_ns7.2.xpi" to install Nexus button support in your Netscape 7.2.
        This supports the Nexus Button in both Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 and Quintarian Web Browser 2.07 for Netscape 7.2.
  3. Close Netscape 7 and then start it again.
  4. In the menu, click "View" - "Show/Hide" - "Nexus Button" to show or hide the Nexus button. (See image: large small)
  5. Note: You may have to change to another theme and back to the Vorkosigan theme before the Nexus button works properly.
 Windows only (?): If you want to change the Netscape icon and splash screen to Vorkosigan-inspired ones, do like this:
  1. Download the file ns70xtra.zip and "unzip" it to a temporary folder. There should be 2 files:
    • "vkcc3.ico", a Vorkosigan ComConsole icon (image)
    • "Netscp.bmp", a Vorkosigan ComConsole splash screen (image).
  2. Move the files "vkcc3.ico" and "Netscp.bmp" from the temporary folder to the Netscape program folder, usually "C:\Program files\Netscape\Netscape\" or "C:\Program files\Netscape\Netscape 7\".
  3. The Vorkosigan ComConsole splash screen will be used the next time you start Netscape 7.
  4. And if you prefer, you can change the Netscape icons in the Start menu and on the desktop to "vkcc3.ico".
