All Bujold fans have surely waited for this, a reskinned version of Mozilla 1 with a "Vorkosigan" look.

Notice: This page has two versions of an installable Vorkosigan theme:

You should be able to use it on all platforms (operating systems).

Notice that there is a Nexus navigation button in the main toolbar of the browser.

This theme has been constructed and tested with Mozilla 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7.

If you have Mozilla 1.0 - 1.4, you are recommended to upgrade to a newer version of Mozilla 1.

 Instructions Mozilla 1.5 / 1.6 / 1.7:

  1. If you do not already have Mozilla 1, go to www.mozilla.org and download and install Mozilla 1.
  2. Start Mozilla 1
  3. In the menu, click "Edit" - "Preferences..." and check that you have JavaScript (image) and software installation (image) enabled.
  4. This step only works in Mozilla 1:
    • For Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6:
      Click on this link to install the "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.61 (Mz1.5)" theme in your Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6.
    • For Mozilla 1.7:
      Click on this link to install the "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 (Mz1.7)" theme in your Mozilla 1.7.
  5. In the menu, click "View" - "Apply Theme" - "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.6 (Mz1.4)", "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.61 (Mz1.5)" or "Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 (Mz1.7)" and a dialog box will open with the message "Theme changes will take effect when you restart Mozilla".
  6. Click "OK", close Mozilla 1 and then start it again.
  7. Your Mozilla 1 should now have the "Vorkosigan ComConsole" look.
 Nexus button: To install support for a Nexus button in the main toolbar, do like this:
  1. Start Mozilla 1. (In Linux you need to be logged in as root)
  2. This step only works in Mozilla 1:
    • For Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6:
      • Download the file "nexus_mz1.5.xpi" to a temporary folder.
      • In the menu click "File" - "Open File...", navigate to the temporary folder, and open the file "nexus_mz1.5.xpi" to install Nexus button support in your Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6.
        This supports the Nexus Button in both Quintarian Web Browser 2.05 and Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.61 for Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6.
    • For Mozilla 1.7:
      • Download the file "nexus_mz1.7.xpi" to a temporary folder.
      • In the menu click "File" - "Open File...", navigate to the temporary folder, and open the file "nexus_mz1.7.xpi" to install Nexus button support in your Mozilla 1.7.
        This supports the Nexus Button in both Quintarian Web Browser 2.07 and Vorkosigan ComConsole 4.67 for Mozilla 1.7.
  3. Close Mozilla 1 and then start it again.
  4. In the menu, click "View" - "Show/Hide" - "Nexus Button" to show or hide the Nexus button. (See image: large small)
  5. Note: You may have to change to another theme and back to the Vorkosigan theme before the Nexus button works properly.
 Windows only (?): If you want to change the Mozilla icon and splash screen to Vorkosigan-inspired ones, do like this:
  1. Download the file mz1extra.zip and "unzip" it to a temporary folder. There should be 2 files:
    • "vkcc3.ico", a Vorkosigan ComConsole icon (image)
    • "mozilla.bmp", a Vorkosigan ComConsole splash screen (image).
  2. Move the files "vkcc3.ico" and "mozilla.bmp" from the temporary folder to the Mozilla program folder, usually "C:\Program files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\".
  3. The Vorkosigan ComConsole splash screen will be used the next time you start Mozilla.
  4. And if you prefer, you can change the Mozilla icons in the Start menu and on the desktop to "vkcc3.ico".
