Loops

I have already tried a one wave loop for 80 meters with very good results during the Autumn Portabel Test 2008 with very good results. Sorry, no pictures. Compared to dipoles and end-fed dipoles the loop picked up less noise. ! will put up some pictures after the coming Spring Portable Test...

You can also make a turned loop antenna for just for receiving, for example, on the Medium Wave Band. Below you can find two pictures of my first attempt...

Is it such a fantastic antenna everybody saying? Actually no. A simple long-wire is more sensitive and better in most cases if you want to listen to the Medium Wave Band. You get some directivity; something that can be useful if you try to separate two stations on the same frequency. It is, however, also very good at picking up noise in its immediate vicinity. Often there will be a dramatic improvement just by putting the antenna outside of your building, as with a long-wire.  But, of course, if you live somewhere away from any local noise sources you will probably say that itīs very nice and useful antenna.
