Distance is just what it sounds like. You have five downwind throws, and measure the longest. To be in discussion for medals at major tournaments you will usually need results over 160-170 meters (app 550 ft). That's far, very far.

The current world record (2003) is an amazing 250 meters (820 ft), set by Swedish player Christian Sandström. Thats a good bit longer than two full football fields after eachother!

To gain maximum release speed and power, most of the top names use a so called 360, or turnaround, approach. I.e. in the middle of the run-up the thrower performs a full 360 degree spin.



1983 the first beveled edge discs were introduced, and since then the disc technology has gone far. In 1996 Scott Stokely was the first to throw over 200 meters , using a 169 g Discraft X-clone.


The modern small diameter low profile discs does not have that much in common with a "regular" standard frisbee...
