Result Card Sort
The goal of usability card sorting test was organizing information on University of Oslo Library website that is useful to the end users.
The homepage should have 6 main categories and undercategories: News & Events
Generel Information More information About the Library Resources Esspecially forThe names of the links More information/Nyttig and Generel information/Praktisk information on the UBO main page was confusing for the all asked library users. The name of this link is similar. The new name for the links should be:Information&Services The link Intern -krever passord should be replaced with INTRANET Intranet is an internal website that is created using standard web technology and accessed using standard web browsers but is available only to users on the inside of a firewall or other boundary. This is usually created by an organisation to provide content and services to its employees or members without allowing external people to view it. User Profiles: I aimed for 5 participants, all regular Internet users and some regular library users. Actual Users:1 librarian ,3 students ,1 teacher Method: 1.Please group carts in a way that make sense to You. 2. Please name the resulting groups All cards was mixed and they have existing structure of words, such as "Addresses & Opening Hours ","Databases", "Contactpoints". Test subjects given cards and asked to group them into similar categories. After sorting and grouping test subjects were asked to "name" or "label" each group with a sticky note. Analysis: Users grouped and labeled information into 3 of exact 6 categories recommended. Users labeled "Address & Opening Hours", "Help","Editorial Responsibility","Search Engines" and "About the Library", "Opening Hours for Readrooms", "Prices", "Scanning",Interlibrary Loan". Mixed results with labels for items belonging to items relating to news, what's happening, or events. Some confusion on "Databases" and "BIBSYS" ,because usera was able to mixing those databases together. Majority disliked by the poor english version of the UBO webpage,it was very negative reactions. For librarian, organization information on the UBO website was clear and understanable. The University teacher wanted easier organisation to understand library features. Summary: Testing and learning from the user is necessary to the success of a website. From the card sorting test I moved to a clearer idea of the navigation structure, how to word categories, and what can sections can be at a lower level. I redeveloped the sitemap based on the findings and further suggestions to locate all librarian organization information. |
