Navigation



If you up navigation in a dictionary, itīs about going two things: getting from one place to another, and figuring out where you are. Users wonīt use Website if they canīt find their way around it.
If you go to a site and cantīt figure out how the site is organized, it make you confusing.Clear and simple navigation is very important.

My recommendations are:

*1. Put a "Home/Hjem" link on every page -- in the upper left corner.


*2. The UBO site has more than a few sections and levels,therfore consider a breadcrumb navigation bar

For example:
Hjem   >>   Bibliotek for medisin og helsefag
instead
BIBLIOTEK   -   Bibliotek for medisin og helsefag

Change also those links font size from <font size="-1"> to <font size="-2">


*3.Place the same standard form of address.

Make shure that the Library abreviations (UHS/UJUR/UMH/UMN) are writen too.

*5.Forget about "Back" and "Next".

Instead of expecting the reader to "click here to continue" along a path that only you can see, consider offering the titles and/or descriptions of several documents that you think might be helpful.


*6. Update NAVIGATION BARS

The navigation bars can be found in the horizontal bar at the top of the screen. The navigation bars of the portal are visible on every UBO page.
    UBO Library navigation bars are:
  • About The University
  • Academics
  • Student Life
  • Research
  • Norwegian

  • Look on WEBSITE REDESIGN - page 1 page, then klick on English.
  • The MAIN MENU on english home page has 6 links, but on the norwegian page has 8 links. Update this!


*7.Put the author and date on every page
Put the author and date on every page, on the same place (to help users determine how current and credible the information is).
The font size of this information should be "-2".

* 8.Create a Site Map

UBO website should include a detailed, text-based site map, with a link to every page and preferably, a short description of what each page offers.
The advantage of using a site map is that users don't have to link to every page from home page, but they should link to site map from every page.
Not only are site maps useful for visitors looking for specific information on website, but they allow search engines to easily find and index every page.
